Bluegill - you are going to need a ranch to hold all those magnificant beasts. The City might object to you keeping them all in the backyard as pets. |

I have found five wild ones this year so far. The latest was today a very sharp looking 1937. I have only found one barber so far. |

I captured another wild buff tonight. Looks like a 34, but very dirty. Can't make out any mintmark. Soaking it in lemon juice which will take the dirt right off without having to use a chemical dip. I like this buffalo hunting. |

Two bank boxes, 4000 nickels in all, yielded:
66 plain old Jeffs 1939-1958 3 Canadians (1966, 1985, 1994) 3 war nickels (1943-P x2, 1945-P) 2 buffalos! (1920, 1936) --- These are my first dated captures. Yay!
This was much better than the four boxes I searched in March, which only gave one buffalo and two war nicks. Today's hunt is more evidence toward my theory that the hard times are increasing roll hunting yields. |

Ha! I watched a portion of Dances with Wolves today when surfing channels. Today's capture was a 1934D tatonka. |

I know I've found one in the past, maybe two... but this past month I searched a $100 nickel box and found a buffalo and two war nickels.
I don't expect to find either, but it was a good find. Oh, NO DATE THOUGH!!! |

I found a 1927 today. First time I've actually seen this coin for real and not just a picture. It's very cool looking. |

So far this year I have found 35 buffalos and 3 liberty heads.
Most of them were within one roll I purchased at the bank a few weeks back.
1 buffalo was found in a Fed Roll and 1 liberty head was found in a Fed Roll. |

Scored another '29 buffalo tonight. - Amazing - in a box that was 95% 2004 boat nickels. Also picked out a 1938. |

I never thought it would be possible to join this illustrious club. As rare as wild buffaloes are in the US, how much more so up here in Canada? It must be the cold winters that keep them away.
So last Friday, I was in a coin shop to buy some silver and my eye happened to fall on a buffalo nickel sitting on top of the junk coin pile. On a whim I picked that up too, thinking that I would never find one of my own anyway. The coin shop owner gave it to me for free.
Then tonight, as I was sorting rolls from a Toronto bank, out pops a wild buffalo. I sat there looking at it for a moment wondering how I had managed to slip the one I just bought a few days ago into this roll. But I was able to dig up the one I just bought Friday, and there I was looking at two buffaloes side by side. Both no dates. At last I concluded I had really found one. (Winter hasn't really set in here yet, maybe it was just about to head south).
The one I bought must be calling his brothers. Tarroooooooo! (buffalo call) |
Not all who wander are lost. |

I suggest you try a different source bank. I found 2 banks in my area tend to deliver buffalos and war nickels better than the others. One bank delivered me zero and zero from several boxes. Good luck! |
