Welcome to the jungle/forum NYUrbanMiner. Looks like you got a good first box. That's a couple of percent higher than I usually get out here on the left coast. |

Wombat here from Toledo area, and I have a problem. Well problem is probably the wrong word but I come across a 1943 copper the other day while sorting. I have tested it against 1943 Steels and it rejects 50% of the time as well as 1942 coppers where it rejects 50% of the time. I have read that there were fakes produced to hock at coin shows but it looks pretty sound to me. Any ideas or suggestions? |

First test is the magnet test. Put a refrigerator magnet up to it and see if it sticks.
Next, look at the date with a magnifying glass. Could be an altered 1948.
Next, put it on a digital scale. A real one should weigh about 3.1 grams. |

Welcome ScottyTX. Kinda low percentages down there. Keep plugging away at it though.

I love finding dimes in my rolls. I had 2 spare rolls that I had forgotten in my closet from a $10 buy the other day (citibank in manhattan) and I found 2 dimes in each. So I got $1.37 for $1.

19% on the weekend sort. A little below average when counting 82s now that I have a Ryedale. |

Have to work today, but I managed to swing by and pick up 24 boxes this morning at one of my regular banks and another box at a drive buy near work. Haven't scaled em for duds yet, but I am cautiously optomistic.
Congrats on finally getting a Ryedale texcattlerancher.. it's about time. Welcome to the dark side. |

Yes, finally broke down. The sound of "clack, clack, clackety, clack" is now strangely comforting. I doubt I ever do more than $100 a week or so. But, the Ryedale saves mucho time. Congratulations on becoming a moderator. And, thank you for letting me continue to post. |

Sorted a few boxes from different sources and still hover around 18% copper.
Finally got to sorting some 1982s: 941 Total 097 Zinc 844 Copper --- 89% Copper
When I get a few thousand more I'll actually sort out all the varieties.

Weird box today...started off with 3 wheat cents in the first two rolls, and ended up with 5 total. Also had some rolls that hit over 40% while others hit less than 10%.
708 1959-82 Cu cents 5 Wheat cents 4 Canadian cents

Picked up two bags at my penny bank. The vault teller told me she set one aside for me because it was full of old pennies. Also got $40 in a drive by.
Good thing this teller doesn't know coins or she might be competition. The bag was over 50% "POND PENNIES" I heard someone use that phrase and now I know what it means. Many looked like gray steel cents except it had the memorial on the back. But I did get a higher then usual CU % from that bag.
POND PENNY BAG 35% CU
I didn't keep track of the other bag and the loose $40 in rolls but average for all was pretty good, for my area.
$32.18 copper + 37 wheats out of $140 = 23%
Also got a Chinese penny 7 dimes and 1 nickel and a "Lucky Penny" A smashed penny from Las Vegas. (the last two items were in a bag) |
