They are really easy to spot in that big pan with all those shiny zincs.
It really is amazing how they stand out. Plus, after a while, you can tell a copper from a zinc even if the Lincoln side is up. I use (copied, whatever) the same method but with a really big box. Works great. |

| I'm new to penny sorting. I started in January. Two weeks ago I found a 1887 IH. I called my brother to tell him and as we were speaking, his wife found a 1903 IH. |

I've found a 1913 wheat penny as the oldest so far.
Amazing to think that this penny was minted before the Federal Reserve Bank came into existence! |

Not quite the oldest, but with a mintmark, it is the best so far:
1916 S Wheat Cent in Fine worth about $1.50
And not sure where to put this one, but I found a 1901 Canadian silver 5 cent. Small thin coin... I was shocked, elated, and just grinning when that came out of a $50 bank bag! Worth at least a dollar(it is pretty worn)...but priceless to me as a unique find! |

| A 1910, no mintmark, legible but very scruffy... still worth about 2.6 cents, tho :) |
Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead? |

That is a great find! It is a Canadian half dime. I actually collect those but have never gotten any in circulation. Another coin to add to my list of coins I hope to see someday in one of my penny rolls. Congrats! |

Pulled a 1944 S wheatie the other night, which to me, is a cool little treasure, this far North-east at least. Value? It's about real rarity and the fact that they don't make 'em anymore. And that most of the pennies up here are Canadian pennys. :-)
Super find there, wolvesdad, with that Canadian "fish scale" 5 cent coin in your penny bag! I've collected a tiny pile of those beauties over the last three decades and cherish and love each and every little one of them. :-)
Cheers guys,

it is worth more than 2.6 cents. If you want to sell some teen wheats for 2.6 cents each, then let me know. It would be a great deal for me.

`Everybody is ignorant. Only on different subjects.' Will Rogers
"This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the "hidden" confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists' antagonism toward the gold standard." Alan Greenspan, 1966. |

I think that 1859 qualifies as the all-time oldest coin found in a penny roll. Hard to find one older than that. I keep hoping I will find a "buzzard cent" but I don't think it very likely. Congrats! {:p] |

I found a 1910 last weekend and an 1889 IH about 6 weeks ago. Both in decent shape for their age.
