I would grade it vg10 or so,but the shock of Finding it was worth more then the coin by far.Even people that don't collect coins know what that one is.My best find in change in 20 years of collecting. Finally.. Finally.. I found that first Indian of the year. With the way everybody else has been reporting finding Indians I was starting to think even NotABigDeal was going to find an Indian before me this year! You know how luck goes in streaks? I found not 1, but 6 Indians in tonight's sort.. the oldest being 1900.
I also found my oldest Lincoln of the year.. a 1909 VDB in XF.. I looked, and I looked, and I looked, and I looked.. but I couldn't see an S on there. |

Congrats! I am still waiting for my first VDB. I probably have found 8 1909s, but none with the magic initials. |

Not a lot of sorting lately, but I did find a fairly nice one. 1913 S Pretty low mintage,(6.1 million) and fairly nice condition.

I found a 1912 wheat, had a 1917 wheat the other day that was so worn it was barely readable.
I have my machine set up with a zinc target too then I rerun all the rejects through with a 95% target which kicks out any mis-sorts and most of the older wheats. |

| My oldest was a pair of 1917's in my last box. Both were G to VG condition so maybe worth 50 cents to a dollar each or so. |

I too found a 1911....G-Fine, except that it had been dipped or clean at some time in it's recent past... funny then that it would make it back into circulation! So far, this year, my oldest found readable date. (I'd found the unreadable, pitted Indian) |

Just sorting by eye for now until I order the machine in a week or two.
But last night I found a 1923, no shine but not very worn. |

First Post. I've been stalking these forums for a few months, but never felt the erge to post ... until tonight, because I found my first (and second) Indian Head! I just had to tell someone.
First was 1882 - XF, at least. Can't believe how good it looks.
Two minutes later I found a 1889 - G.
Also, let me say how you guys rock. I found both in my "Zinc keep" that I was just dumping until a few weeks ago after reading posts here telling you to give it a look. |

Congratulations on finding your first 2 Indians! That 82 sounds like a great one.
Glad to hear something I posted here helped you to find them. This is a great site for the sharing of stories and ideas. I have picked up several good tips from the other members here as well. |

| Keep at it No82's.. they are out there. They say you only have to sort about 100,000 pennies to find one. Of course if you find one, there is often another nearby. You wouldn't want that first one Loophole29 found anyway.. it was an 82! |

| It's easy misteroman.. since I have all these great machines I don't strain my eyes eyeballing all those cents. I save my eyesight for the crucial step when I am about ready to bag up the zinc for return. The wheats and Indians can go either way when sorted. Usually the older wheats and Indians will go to the zinc side though. Using a big pan I bought at the dollar store I can quickly check the zincs to make sure to pull all the old wheats and Indians out before bagging up the zincs to return to the bank. They are really easy to spot in that big pan with all those shiny zincs. (See my other thread about my new alternative sorting method) If they go to the copper side I will find them later when I get around to refining the buckets of copper. Right now I am trying to capture as much copper as possible by mass-sorting before all the copper is gone from circulation. You really should get you one of those Ryedales. I love it! I am just a big kid that likes to sort though a bunch of pennies so I can add coppers, wheats and Indians to my hoard. The machines allow me to process a lot more pennies in a lot less time. |
