I would really like to see this coin. There were no 1969 plain halves minted. 40% halves are 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968D, 1969D... And I guess you could throw dates like 1970D in that but those don't show up in circulation much. |

Check out the new statewide maps I put up tonight.
Can you use different colors? The scale used makes it hard to tell one shade from the next if they is only a one shade difference.
I'll see what I can do.
I put a lot of work into developing the data behind these maps and now I need to spend some time searching coins.
OK...I inverted the color scheme on all the statistical maps. I think it looks much better. |

I had a pretty good day at the bank today (saturday). I went in to deposit some coins, and the clerk asked me if I knew anything about quarters. I said I did, and she showed me 4 silver quarters she had pulled when a lady brought in a bag of quarters to be counted. She then said she thought they probably still had the bag from the machine in the vault. I asked if I could buy it, and after some consultation, they said I could. They had to find the bag in the vault. I bought it, $500. In it were 220 silver washington qtrs, 2 S-mint mark w/o date standing liberties, and 1 '64 canadian. 110 were 1964's, but after that, every year from 1940 thru 1963 was represtend, except for 2. There was also one 1936. It was a pleasant surprise. I really did not expect to see any more silver quarters in the wild. I have been getting a little sour about the lack of silver in the oregon area; now I have no complaints, at least for a while.
FANTASTIC OFF THE CHARTS FIND!!!
WELCOME to the 2010 SILVER hunt. 1964 quarters are so nice, very lightly worn and high in SILVER content. |

Can you tell me how many SILVER halves were in each of the six boxes? That way I can keep track of the box SKUNKS and other data. |

You are correct. I went back for another look. It is spotted with tarnish and when I used a magnifying glass, there was a tarnished "D" on the coin.
I've been fighting it every time I get my eye's checked, but maybe I really do need bifocals. |

I just added a new statistic. It is the percentage of SILVER halves not found in boxes or bags. Basically, this is the percentage of SILVER halves found when we get CWR halves and teller tray halves.
Interesting who makes the top rungs of this list!!

Here are some odd things I have come across in the past few months. 2 double headed halfs; very hard to tell which is the fake side, but the rim is much higher on one side, and sharper, leading me to conclude it is the "tails" (reverse) side. The last picture is an odd thing --- it's kennedy half on one side, and british large pence on the other; why I cannot imagine.

I will get some better pictures of the 2 kennedy double headed coins from work, when things are less busy. My boss tells me it would not be hard to etch a half with an ion mill; maybe a couple hours to set it up, then very little time to precisely etch it and trim the other coin. I have another similar half that is etched just inside the "United States of America" on the reverse --- whatever was supposed to fit inside that never made it to me.

I need this to happen with quarters and dimes for my collections sake.
I have plenty of halves to trade but would prefer to be in the right place and at the right time as you have done.
Congrats on a great haul!
