Hello Fellow SILVER treasure hunters:
In March 2010, please post your finds right here.
New for the month of March will be SILVER box streak tracking. How many boxes (or bags) of halves with SILVERs will you get in a row?
HIGHLIGHTS OF FEBRUARY'S SILVER SEARCHING:
(1) 12kHz goes on a tear and finds 528 SILVER halves in one month finding two spectacular boxes of 161 and 287 SILVER halves on February 11.
(2) slickeast finds a $1000 bag on February 2 that contains 289 SILVER halves.
(3) Country bounces back from a terrible January to snag 271 SILVER halves during February. Dumpster Diver gets 199 SILVER halves too.
(4) killerken and cecropia_moth go head to head with 35 and 41 SILVER dimes respectively during the month of February.
(5) zerocd and cwgii find 51 and 38 War Nicks respectively during the month of February.
(6) AmalekiDad finds an 1899 half on February 5, fb101 finds a 1909-O half on February 17, AgCollector finds an 1891 Seated Liberty dime on February 13, and zerocd finds an 1857 Large Cent on February 25.
(7) Dumpster Diver finds 49 clad proofs in a box of halves on February 14 and Mcprice302 snags 108 1971-S proofs on February 9.

It's important to post your SKUNKS as well as your great SILVER finds. That keeps the statistics honest. I'll try to post some graphs of our SILVER finds as 2010 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2010 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.
It might be interesting to see how many Barbers, Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys are found too. Also, how many Barbers and Mercurys dimes we find. I'll try to keep track of all of these.

Very comprehensive stats, keeps getting better all the time.
I was wondering though if it's too late to add proofs for cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars. Maybe just split into clad vs silver proofs for each denomination.
Interesting how people are sorting so much more after you started the rankings.
Looking forward to my first box of halves this year on Thursday. Hopefully I can start some additional orders soon, beyond 1/week (just in time for midterms).

It's not a competition, but i was really happy to lead the way for AG dimes this year. I really got taken down a peg or two by killerken53 and Hirbonzig last month. The chase...is on!

Snagged my first silver for the month today when while dumping $500 in nickels and $400 in zincolns I spotted a 1960 Franklin in the counting machine bag for halves along with a single clad.
A teller must change bags when I bring this much and I asked if I could exchange another half for the interesting one in the bag.
After she confers with the head teller, they say OK and wouldn't you know it, I had no halves and had to find one to buy quickly. A third teller sold me a half and I made the exchange.
First half of March for me.

I'll keep my primary focus here on the SILVERs. I think it would be better if someone else in the RealCent copper and RealCent nickel sections would follow through by keeping track of the cent and nickel proofs. While I'll continue gathering the SILVER stats, I'm pretty much maxed out right now (gotta have some time to do some SILVER half searching myself) and I personally don't plan to add too much more additional statistics gathering.
If someone else would like to start a new thread and monitor the clad proofs for RealCent, I say - Go for it!!  |

Breakdown:
90% - 5, all 1964 Kens
40% -
1965 - 1
1966 - 0
1967 - 9
1968 - 6
1969 - 5
NIFC's - 1 each of 2003, 2007, and 2009, all D mint
These were all found in rolls except one lonely 1967 and the 2009 NIFC in the $12.50 loose which was accumulated at 5 different stops. |
