Here's how much in halves our top RealCent SILVER finders have searched so far this year:
12kHz (325) - $6000 Dumpster Diver (317) - $7458.50 AgCoinHunter (133) - $3122.50 AmalekiDad (117) - $6050
Sometimes it's the dumping that limits you. |

Indeed, I would be doing 5K - 6k a week if I didnt have to dump it. Dumps limit me to around 2k, but next week I am doing an additional box to up my numbers on here. Means one more dump on the weekends... |

I think it would be extremely challenging for me to dump that much in halves. Heck, it's hard enough dumping a few grand in pennies.. and banks actually use those. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I imagine most of the serious half sorters dump into machines. I can just picture me showing up at one of my dump banks with a few boxes of rolled halves for deposit. |

I use 9 dump bank branches (different bank and service company from my source bank) that all have counting machines. I dump $3000 a week in halves on average and I get $3000 a week in halves from my source bank. I limit my dumping to $3000 per branch. Sometimes I dump $6000 a week (two different dump bank branches), sometimes $3000, and sometimes not at all. I make the round trip to all of my bank branches in 8 to 9 weeks. That way they don't see me too often.
Personally, I could do much, much more in halves. However, if I dump too much I would be cut off at the dump bank branches. |

Thanks Country, It's hard for me to get too excited about the 2009 nickels/dimes-I think highroller is right- there are probably a ton of them coming soon. Still fun to look for though.
I found two '09 nickels this month and will keep them if for no other reason than to one day tell my kids that I had to wait until 2010 just to see one during the "great recession!"
Still have not seen a dime! Has anyone else? |

Sounds like you have the dumping part worked out pretty well Country. That is really the tricky part if you are going to do quantity.. no matter what denomination.
I have seen the dime for sale at a coin show.. but none in circulation. |

I sort $2k/week. I wouldn't mind doing more, but it starts taking too much time away from other things.
I initially started dumping at a few branches that have customer operated counters (all the same bank). I've found it kind of a nuisance though. The counter at the branch closest to me completely choked the first time I fed it halves -- stopping every so often and requiring someone to open it up and fix it. I gave up before finishing the first $250 of halves. So now I'm stuck going to less convenient branches. Half the time the machines are out of order, and it takes time to stand there and feed them, so I decided to try other banks that don't have counters.
All the banks around here that I have asked about bringing in coins say to bring them loose. I opened an account with another bank and have been dumping at a couple of close by branches. It's pretty convenient -- just drop off some coins in bags along with a deposit slip, and you're out the door in no time. I may try to open more accounts to spread the dumping around.
I generally dump $1k at a time, so two dumps per week. For branches with counters, I limit dumps to once per week, and for branches without counters, once per two weeks.
It's still a system under development -- I've only been doing this since the end of October. I'm open to suggestions for improvement. |

$1,200.50 Halves.
Breakdown:
$200.50 - 20 loose String rolls from a CWI box (date unknown)...(1) roll had an extra half.
SKUNK
$500.00 - Coin Wrap Inc. box (no facility/date stamp).
(2) 90% - (2)64 JFK (3) 40% - 67, (2)68D (1) NIFC - 06P gold plated 1980-D
$500.00 - Coin Wrap Inc. box (again no facility/date stamp).
(1) 40% - 66 (2) NIFC - 08P, 08D gold plated 1978
What I am calling "gold plated" halves, I really do not know if it truly is GOLD. They are extremely gold in color though. We have found four of these in total and they are always MS quality coins. Perhaps it is a brass coating, could be gold (they did this with state quarters) or perhaps it is some other chemical process that makes them this color. They do not look like the gold pennies some of us find occasionally. Please weigh in if you know what these are.

In other news, I just got my first check for selling halves on Nucleo Exchange. Pretty painless. I sold $200 of 40% and $10 of 90%. I'm sorting mostly to sell rather than to hang onto the silver, but I'm keeping some of the 90% for now (not to mention the best of each date/mint for the coin folders). |

I've been fortunate to establish a relationship with a bank that lets me cash in bagged coin (even gives me bags). They just weigh it on the spot. Their tolerance for bagged halves is 48.6 to 49 lbs. I hit 49.0 lbs every time and there never seems to be an issue. I divide my sorts up by 2 boxes and just toss 'em in the bag. I use CWRs as feeder coins to replace the keepers. They are great people and I'll soon be giving them all my banking business. |

None of my regular banks have counting machines.. either in the lobby, or in the back room.. so that limits my options. My CU has a lobby counter.. but it is a CoinStar.. and they are only open M-F 9-5.. when I am generally at work.. so I don't dump there very often. I learned about spreading my dumps around after being cut off by my main dump bank after bringing in $3000 in pennies in one week. Now I spread it around to multiple banks, multiple branches and multiple cities. That way none of them get too excited about the volume.. and if they were to cut me off it would not seriously affect the operation. Having the automatic rolling machines really helps with the dumping. Several of my dump banks actually look forward to me giving them a steady supply of nice machine wrapped rolls. I also dump in precounted bags (the high speed counters are even faster than the rolling machines), but only one of my banks will take them in bags.. all others require that they be rolled. The beauty of rolling or bagging my own is that I am not dependant on any bank's machine being working or full. If something goes wrong I just fix it, or fire up the machine next to it until I can get around to fixing it. This way I am never tied up at some bank's machine.. Just take the coins in and deposit them. The more dump banks you have, the better.. you can increase your volume without seriously impacting your dump banks.
Jeff.. I think the gold plated halves are really gold plated. I have found a few of them. They should be worth about 50 cents each. They make great tips.

Dumpster Diver...Huge congrats on finding the 2009!!! That would excite me greatly! I keep looking and hoping. Eventually, I hope they will begin circulating. Haven't found a 2009 dime yet and just the one 2009 nickel. The jar to hold the coins (non-penny) for the kids' wedding year is sure pitiful. Only just beginning to find a few more of the 2009 pennies also. Yesterday was their first wedding anniversary--needless to say they didn't either jar yet as both jars are a long way from being filled.
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |

BD Nucleo is great for both selling and buying PMs. You can put a bid out there during a panic buying or selling situation and get a great deal. You can let your buys accumulate for selling or later shipping. |
