Hi All,
I have found 2 Indians and 3 George V pennys since starting about 1.5 years ago. Found the third George V (1920) last night. Its odd that these canadian pennies look better than the US pennies I find from these decades. At the moment i'm finding George V's more often than Indian Coppers.

Hello Everyone!
Found another George V. Its my second 1932 penny. The king is quite worn down on this one. The other side looks great! Strangestuff!
Happy Hunting All!! |

That's a good number of them- but actually those are George VI, not George V. |

Newbie member here and have hand sorted only my 5th box. I found a 1921 George V in decent shape last night. Beginners luck I guess. Please add me to the list...I need some "copper cred" on the forum. |

Was at my mom's place, went in the laundry and noticed a 1936 George V penny in a little pile of pocket change. I rescued the senior citizen copper from further curculation - 73 years of work is enough! |

Thanks for the welcome. I am new to hoarding, so I have little to post, but I can certainly comment when I find an old Canadian coin. I found that George V on a resort of the zincs from the Ryedale. Also found a 1909 wheat, but it unfortunately had no S or VDB. |
Just my two cents! |

I've noticed this too. I have a couple theories. One is that commerce was not as fast-paced in the frozen north and so pennies changed hands fewer times. The other is that many Canadian pennies that make it to the US get saved as novelties, then released into circulation at a later date by accident, thereby accumulating less wear. It also could be that the die strike is stronger, I don't know. |

i'm going with the stronger strike. Also some of these old coins do get saved as AG suggested. |

Have now hand-sorted 36,000 total from 6/13/2009 to date. Have pulled a total of 104 Canadian pennies (0.29%) but not one single George V. Have pulled (3) George VI though, a 1942 and two 1943's. Also of note is that 15 of the 104 are the first (young) Eliz. II design ('53-'64). Have never pulled a 1967 Centennial rockdove. I sort in SE Wisconsin.
Cheers,
Jeff |

In two rolls worth of Canadian pennies, I'm not surprised there has been no George V. Wild guess is it takes 20+ boxes of Canadians before even thinking about finding a George V. |

jadedragon -
What I meant to say (I might not have been clear with my wording) is that I have hand-sorted a total of 36,000 U.S. pennies which represents 720 U.S. rolls and no George V's have popped up. The 104 Canadians is a grand total of what I have pulled from those 720 rolls. I've got to assume those George V's are much tougher to find in the U.S. than Indians (although I've never found one of those either!!!). I think I read the estimate was 1 I.H. per approximately every 250K sorted. Thanks much for your help/answers with respect to Toronto in the other thread.
Take care,
Jeff |

I found a 1928 tonight. There were several rolls of solid copper along with some rolls of solid Canadians in a $50 dollar bag of CWR. In the roll of Canadian were several rock doves, a few George VI's and one George V |

cecropia_moth I understood exactly what you are saying. Just making my own point about rarity. Enjoy Toronto :) Hope you find that George V soon ! |
