Hi - Went to an auto flea market today & a vender had a square brownie tray with foreign coins. Mostly small denomination & copper. While trying to remember the weight for the British coppers I found a 1934 George V. Asked the vender what he wanted for it & he said to make him an offer. So I told him hat I would give him a nickel for it. Five times profit. He told me that I was the cheapest guy he has ever met because he had never sold anything for a nickel before. But he took it!
Checked the Charton book & in worst condition its worth a $1.00 Cdn & the good part was that I needed the 1934 penny. You just never know what you are going to find where - if that makes sense.

Happy hunting all!!

Nice. Yes. Very nice.

A question from a 'newbie'.

I'm from the midwest US and haven't found any George V, but have found 3 George VI and lots of Elizabeth (from 1955 (?), and on) ... but could someone please tell me what the deal is with the 1967 Canadian pennny? Are they valuable besides copper content? I haven't found any, but just wondered.

Thanks much and happy hoardinng to all.

The Canadian 1967 penny has a Rock Dove in flight on it. The mint made special animal/bird coins for the 100th anniversary of Confederation. They are not particularly rare but people collect them because they have a different obverse than all the other circulating pennies since George V. Yes all Canadian pennies are 98% copper up to 1996.

My first (and only so far) George was in my first box! about 2 weeks ago. It was a significant contributor to my penny addiction. I'm not a coin expert, but it's beautiful. 1936, and only a couple minor scratches around the edge.

metal is a claim on future human labour. let's all go get some while the getting is good, eh?

Since my previous post I have found a 1932 George V, several George Vi and a good amount of pre-1996 Canadian. I think that's pretty good for being 600+ miles from the closest Canadian border crossing

Now I'm looking for and expecting to find more George V.

BTW, have also found 3 or 4 1967 Canadian Centennial cent.

Being a hand sorter, I don't go through near as many pennies as the big guys on this forum do, but right now my percentages of US copper are running around 32-34%.

.... and I'm still looking for my 1914 D cent, and I'm expecting to find it any time now, but if one of you folks finds it first, please send it to me

I have a George I, II, III, IV, V, and VI... do those count? Just kidding. I thought it would be nice to see the six images.

These six coins are Great Britain farthings.
George 1: 1714-1727
George 2: 1727-1760
George 3: 1760-1820
George 4: 1820-1830
(then William 4, Victoria, Edward 7)
George 5: 1910-1936
(then Edward 8 for a short while)
George 6: 1937-1952

Aaron

PS as you probably guessed, I collect British coins. You got any?

The Canadian version of George V 1910-1936 have him wearing a crown. The George Vi's all list for more than $5.00 in EF-40 in the 2009 Charlton Catalouge (Canadian)

Bought a bunch of unsorted Canadian coins from Copper Catcher. Found a George V penny in the mix. Also found 3 George V Nickels in the unsorted nickels.

There were 32 George V pennies already sorted out, so they don't count.

Picked up some nickels but the bank could only give me ten rolls. The 1935 date showing on a roll end kind of made up for the nickel shortage.
