Bought the last of any Canadian nickels I could find at face value locally today, along with a bunch of Canadian cents. Here are my counts:
*2984 Canadian cents: 2984 Cu (all 60's & 70's)
*1000 Canadian nickels: 733 Ni (pre1981) 120 Steel/CuNi (post1981) 54 1945 V's (steel) 30 1944 V's (steel) 13 1952 (steel) 30 1953 (steel) 12 1954 (steel) 4 1937 DOT (all 4 MS60++) 1 1951 (steel) (MS60) 1 1967 proof (PR70) Perfect! 1 1984 proof (PR70) Perfect! 1 2005 clipped planchet (MS60++)
I have two question's for the Canadian hoarders.
Are your pure Ni counts usually this high? & These rolls that I bought were awesome, they were plastic and wrapped around and snapped closed, you could re-use them, is this the normal packaging for Canadian nickels or are they something from a private company? (I have never seen them before)

Wow. Well done. That's a way high percentage - usually you get 20-25% .999NI
If you want to trade some of those steel war nickels I'll give you double the number in pure nickel nickels for them. I love war nickels!

Found another coin store within 50 miles that had Canadian cents & nickels at a reasonable price. They are getting harder and harder to find because I bought all the close stores out of all the nickels and cents they had.
Anyhow got some sweet deals at this place.
I bought:
1040 (all Cu & pre1950) Canadian cents. [paid $10.40]
327 unsorted Canadian nickels [paid $16.35]
10 large copper hard times tokens from the 1850's (all bent or holed) [paid $7.50]
10 lbs. large size US,CAN,& GB coppers dated between 1785 and 1912 [paid $35.00] *within the assortment also found two ounces of small world silver coins & about 15 US indian head cents and US early large cents.
Here are my counts from the nickels: 327 nickels 251 Ni 25 post 1981 1 1927 2 1928's 1 1929 1 1930 1 1931 1 1932 1 1943 Tombac 4 1944 V's 7 1945 V's 5 1951 Steel 10 1952 Steel 11 1953 Steel 4 1954 Steel 1 1944 V (MS69) Truly a perfect coin, not even the slightest bit of wear or spots 1 1969 proof

Welcome all new members. From the averages I see posted it's not too late to jump into the penny sorting waters.

Thanks for the welcome,,,,Like I said I am new to the penny scene, but not to metals,, I have been saving silver for a few years now,,,Not having much luck of late with half dollars. They are getting to hard to get from the banks.. I got 20 boxes of nickles just for the hell of it not going to try and sort them ( well I tried 1 box and only got 2 silver ) I wasnt going to sort my pennies I just bought them because of the news I saw on rebasing them, But I wanted to see how many I would find so I tore into em. lol with the 2 boxes I added today I am up to 12 boxes. I haven't taken any of the zink back to the bank I am just going to hold on to them untill I run out of space for them ( better than holding paper money IMO ) lol,, going to add 100.00 a week. |

All the rolls of half-dollars I get from the bank have a check mark on them. I can't blame the tellers. I would be checking them too for the 40% siver.

Finally got around to registering tonight after lurking for a few months. Yes, I have Copper Fever like many others here. There still seems to be plenty of them in circulation out here in CA. Sorted a small batch last night.
10 Rolls
369 Zinc 125 CU 5 Wheat Cents including a 1943 Steel Cent 1 Canadian
26% Copper
I generally pick up a couple of boxes at a time at each of my banks when I am there. They sometimes rattle around in the trunk of the car for several days before getting hauled into the house or office. Of course this seems to affect the gas mileage as with all those pennies in the trunk I am always driving uphill.
Learn from the mistakes of others.. Nobody lives long enough to make them all himself |
