I got bored yesterday so I made this chart

You must be logged in to see this link.

It made me so angry that I actually felt like I needed to put it up on the net so other people can see what is really going on. The sad part is we just kind of have to take it.

Interesting info-thanks. I moved the thread over to "Economic & business news".

neat stuff. By neat I mean that it makes me want to go flippin crazy and take a bullhorn to the halls of congress. But alas, for that to work there would need to be more that 15-20 people that would listen.

Yea, I wish there was something more we could do about it. I drive only when I have to anymore, unfortunately that is still quite a bit. Especially since I have started my classes back up and I commute to campus. I drive about 50-60 optional miles each week, the rest I have no choice. I don't really have anything I can cut back on.

Very interesting chart. Does not surprise me at all. You could also do a similar chart with silver. As the price of silver drops, the spreads increase.

If it makes you feel any better, I drive about 100 optional miles each week.. but I have to do 500 miles each week which are not optional. That gas price cut into the penny purchases a bit.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Guess my commute isn't that bad...I drive ~130 non-optional miles a week. I only get ~11 mpg though.

I only live 4.1 miles from the shop. As I drive an SUV my mpg is around 11 or 12.

What does the rend look like for 2007 and earlier years?

What are the data sources for the info on this graph?

Is this trend also happening in Canada or Europe?

I haven't had time to do the earlier years yet. I found a site with the weekly national gasoline average price (which I noticed is about 30 cents cheaper than where I'm from). I also used the nymex weekly crude oil price chart. Taking a quick glance at earlier years, it isn't quite as bad. It really hasn't gotten blaitantly obvious until these last couple months. Oil prices are heading back up this week though so it may level out again, we'll see. Maybe they'll just push the gas price up to 4.50 per gallon now. At any rate, I was hoping that the gas prices would come down to level it out, I definately didn't want the oil prices to increase to level it out.
