I have been going to the banks and getting boxes of pennies for about a year now. I collect the wheats and have 880 at this time. Just yesterday, I found a indian cent..1904..really good condition. I researched the value and its only $1.00 - $5.00. Does that sound right to you? Also, does anyone here hoard the 1959 - 1981 lincoln pennies? Thats the years that they are mostly copper.

Welcome Dan. Enjoy this forum. I have heard rumors that one or two of our members may hoard the copper Lincoln pennies from 59-81, but that's just rumor.

Ten Bears is right- I can confirm the rumors. I'll stick my neck out a little and say that I'm pretty sure some members have been known to sell these "mostly copper pennies" above face value.

| Welcome Dan. I also will confirm the rumors. Some people here might actually have more than $100 face value of copper pennies! |

| Some other members here seem to collect those wheatie pennies like you do. Personally I only have a few handfuls of the 1959-1981 95% US Cu pennies sorted out from my many bins of Canadian 98% Cu pennies... pretty sure I could find some more though if I look hard in those bins. |

| Dan, we are all funnin you some as I hope you know. Good folks here; polite and helpful too. Yes, you are in the right place if you are interested in hoarding copper pennies for their bullion value. The "rumors" that some people hoard copper pennies is true. Just about everyone here is a penny hoarder on some scale, and many actually have Ryedale machines to easily sort copper pennies from zinc pennies. Even without a machine, there are people here who hand sort boxes (as in plural) of pennies each week. I have hand sorted more than my fair share of pennies. I find it relaxing when I hand sort. Surf around and read several of the threads and you will see the interest in hoarding copper pennies by our members. One of the more popular threads deals with the copper percentages our members are yielding in their penny sorts. Some guys get upwards of 30% copper when they sort a box of pennies. |

And if you are really special you can pull 50% Cu on a consistant basis... oh it helps to be N of 49. |

| I made a mistake when I said that the years for mostly copper were 1959 - 1981, I did know that it goes from 1909 to 1981 but I have just now yesterday considered hoarding ALL coppers. I don't think I am gonna do to much of that. Thats a lot of sorting. I got to about $12.00 and quit. The number of wheats in a $25.00 box has plummeted here lately. I am up to 907 wheats. My goal is 1000. |

Some use a lot of machines... but I only have three, so far. Got to get a roller next. Found a local vending company with one, but they don't want to share. from the rolls I've gotten processed by them I can tell it is a sweet machine.
Why draw the line at 1000 wheats? I just can't send a coin worth more then face into circulation again no matter how hard I try. Some people even claim to find wild indians, while others claim to find so many wild indians they can seed them out into boxes of zinc pennies just to mess with other people's heads. |

Lier!!! I happen to know you own a Glory CP-11 that you stole on eBay for $100 and a Ryedale.
I got another Mach 7 today. 235 pounds of brute force machine.. sorts and counts 4,000 coins per minute!
I guess I hoard machines! OK, I admit it.. I hoard a few of those 1959-1981 lincoln cents too.

| I don't have to roll pennies to return them. My bank gives me those heavy duty plastic bags. So...when I finish going through 2 boxes, I sack them up. ($50.00) They started giving me those bags right after I turned in $75.00 in rolled pennies. I don't think they have to count them but they have to handle them and bust em' out. Thats why the let me use the bags. Anybody ever have trouble getting boxes of pennies from banks that you don't have an account with? I know a trick or two. |

I just walk in and offer them cash for pennies and nickels - but I am always curious what other ideas work. Please tell. |

| I have found that many banks will ask if you have an account with them when you walk in and say......."Can I get a $25.00 box of pennies?" In order to avoid an outright lie, and say "Yes I do", (of course this works often.lol), I will sometimes walk in and say......"I am supposed to pick up a box of pennies". In that way, they usually will not ask if you have an account, they figure your boss or someone sent you. Its not a lie, since that was your purpose, to pick up a box of pennies. |

| I have about 20 wheats from 1937 to 1958 that have almost the same quality as a "new" 2008 or 2009. I'm talking about the same brightness before pennies turn that brown color. From what I understand, a 1958 penny is worth about $0.04. Does the fact that it still has that new copper shine, make it substantially more valuable? |
