Just picked up a $50.00 Bag of Pennies and Got a Bag of Quarters.

Could a bought a New Rydale, but returned them for a $50.00 bag of pennies.

Found 53 Wheats in bag so I still did GREAT.

No,

The bags are canvas and have paper tags indicating pennies.

Vault Teller was happy to see them back though.

Good for you!
No good deed goes unrewarded!
Did you know how much that quarter bag weighed?
You can usually feel a huge difference - quarter bags are very heavy!
That should assure you a steady, unlimited supply for the future.

Ideal weight for a quarter bag is 49.67 pounds. Fed says it's close enough if it's within 1.5 pounds.

While there was nothing the bank could do if OP didn't return the bag, They would have KNOWN it was him and treated him accordingly in the future.

Sometimes I think bank relationships take a turn for the worse because a Teller THINKS we did something when they made a mistake even if we didn't benefit from it and had no idea something happened.

I know I've been blamed for a couple things in the past.

I had one bank relationship go south because the tellers kept clearing non-full bags on the coin counter. They would refuse to admit they made a mistake and then call out the service guy. Apparently the service visits were putting the coin machine costs on the radar of upper management. Well who's using the coin machine the most (Dollar wise as I was cashing in half-dollars). Compound that with the fact that they kept getting bags rejected due to them being OVERWEIGHT. I imagine it was a nightmare to balance that machine as they would not address the cleared bags immediately but let it fester and get out of hand.

At another bank, I cashed in some halves and dollar coins. They called me up later the same day demanding I come back and give them some $300 back because their machine miscounted. They know it miscounted because they Hand Counted the Dollar coins and their count was off by the amount they wanted back. Well I knew how much I brought them and the truth was they actually shorted me (a couple dollar coins got counted as quarters). There was a sense of pleasure in reiterating the same lines I have been told EVERYTIME they short me and I complain. I told them the machine never lies and I was paid exactly what the machine says. In hindsight, it was both their arrogance and mine that resulted in me never using that branch again. I also had to watch the bank statement for quite some time to make sure they don't help themselves to that $300 either.

With the volume I've turned, I could only imagine what I've been blamed for in the past. I know I've had my fair share of bank relationships go south when as far as I could tell, nothing had happened to cause the relationship to change.

As tempting as it may have been, you did the ethical thing, kudos to you.

I didn't notice a big difference in the weight or the fill height of the canvas bag, but when I set it down it had a total different sound (ting) from a bag of pennies.
