I won't give it away, it's an article on numismaster that's sure to be a surprise. ( a web-safe surprise, just the story is a shocker! )

Don't get your hopes up, folks. This legendary coin was found 65 years ago, hardly yesterday.

"Today, it's widely considered to be a classic 20th century rarity, more kin to a transitional type, and now is collected as part of the regular series by devoted Lincoln cent enthusiasts," Camire said.

They just said that it's a part of the set? Wow! Now I have to get the 55 DD and the 43 copper.

Interesting end to the article: "Contursi said his recently-acquired 1943 bronze Lincoln cent is quite special for him.

"Of all the million dollar coins I've bought or sold - from Brasher Doubloons to the King of Siam set - this is the first 1943 'copper penny' I've ever owned!"

Interesting that this coin is mentioned in the same breath as the King of Siam set...guess we need to keep looking..ha ha..

I'd REALLY like to find one of those!

Years ago I had an unscruppelous dealer sell me half a dozen rolls of zips, I've always had a sore spot when it comes to the 43's.

Truly the most highly coveted, holy grail find of all Lincoln cents, FAR surpassing the allure of the 1909 S VDB even !!

How about finding a steel 1944?
A few of those were minted by mistake.
A copper 43 and a steel 44, now that would be the ultimate two cents to own.

True and so many seam to ignor the multitude of other great error coins. The 74 Aluminum one that got out into public. The 59 Wheat Back cent. Of course there have been stories of an Indian Head Cent in 1910 but I doubt that.
Check out the Lincoln Cent Resoure site of You must be logged in to see this link.
Lots and lots of errors listed.

Carl
