My last lot consisted of five MMF boxes with unmarked paper rolls from my regional supply bank. I put them through my rydale and got 30.79% copper, including canadians and excluding wheats. The percentage is about one point above average for my area. No really fantastic finds though, but an overall good pickup!

I normally get CWI boxes wrapped in NF String rolls from my primary supply bank, but they seem to have changed sources. I'm now getting unmarked boxes (no CWI stamp with date) in generic unmarked rolls. So far I'm not concerned though, as my percents are higher!

I was averaging 20-25% from the CWI boxes, but after going through 2 out of 4 of these new boxes I got about 30% in each. The remaining 2 have comparable weights, so I'll likely get a similar percentage from them.

Hopefully these new boxes continue, and double hopefully their half dollar boxes are also more lucrative.

I'm sorting in the central PA area, btw.

My last 2 boxes of cwr cents drew in a decent 29% including all the wheats and canucks. I have my brothers to thank for helping out til I can get a rydale. But we found 4 1998 wide AM ¢'s and a single 1999 wide AM ¢. The 99 has a lot of cancer and looks like crap but still a nice find. Still no injuns. YET!!!

halves are a crapshoot. One day you'll get an amazing haul, the next you'll get nothing. there's no consistency like with penny boxes, so you'll have to keep at it, hitting a number of banks (volume is key) in order to see the really good results. Rolls returned by customers (CWRs) are usually where the good scores come from, though I've ordered some $500 machine wrapped boxes and found 20 or more silvers in the lot. Again, volume is key. Be the first to get ALL the boxes/CWR halves. Even the bad ones.

Be weary though if banks tend to have CWR halves frequently and in large quantity. You may be getting someone else's dumps. In this case it would likely be best to find another bank or branch. You'll just be wasting your time resorting his/her coppernickel.

You may not want to hear this if your funds are limited, but halves are not for sorters on a tight budget. You may get lucky, but in the end you likely won't find enough to make it worth the time. Not saying you shouldn't try, just trying to prepare you for the worst. Realizing even the slightest bit of consistency in halves takes patience, $500+ in cash or unallocated deposits, and a good dump bank outside of your source network. Otherwise you are completely at lady luck's mercy.

Location is very important as well. I notice I have better luck with halves than friends of mine in bigger cities. This could of course be entirely coincidental, though it's tough to call without a larger sample.

Good luck out there, halves can be competitive

Ive been working a partime job at a gas station for the last 3 weeks. While the pay is crap it is a quarter of a mile from home and offers free fountian drinks and hot dogs and corndogs while at work. Plus I get to do some searching. While Ive only got to run the register a few times I have found a few items. Nothing really great but hey when you figure in the fact that i am getting paid to search I guess Im getting them under facevalue lol. Heres my totals for the last 3 weeks. Figure Ill go ahead and post totals then do bnext month next month sinc ei have alot coming up the next few days.

Pre60 nickels-5 39,46,46-d,49,60-d

Welcome to the forum chant1970. That is a good percentage for a first box. Figure the 82's will be about 80% copper. If you add them back into the equation that would be about a 27.5% copper yield! What part of the country are you from?

Had a good day at the coin show today. Started when I had to pay a bridge toll on the way there. Yep, you guessed it.. 8 roll of zinc. You would have thought this cute little toll taker had never been paid in rolls of pennies before. Even though they were machine rolled, she insisted I wait while you took them out of the rolls and put them in her coin bag. She starts by trying to peel open the first roll. Now many of you experience penny hoarders here know that is not the most efficient method of liberating pennies from tighly wrapped bank rolls. I tell her she should just whack them to open them. She obviously had little experience doing this. She rears back slams the roll against her counter. Pennies were flying all over the booth! Half the roll fell down by her feet. I was trying not to laugh too hard. Very entertaining! I love paying bridge tolls with zincers.

Coin Buying Report for today:
Was quoted some really high spreads on some silver eagles and gold coins but I was able to do a few deals.
2 Large Cents - Lots of copper in these!
2 Rolls (40 Rounds) Engelhard Prospectors
1 Roll (20 Rounds) Liberty Rounds
1 Box shiny new 2008-D dimes

Also made a deal for 10 Rounds to be delivered to me at coin club on Tuesday.

Sorry CopperCatcher.. didn't find any extra silver rounds for you.

Can hardly wait until the next coin show on Saturday.

Haven't really kept close analysis of my sorting efforts in terms of the numbers and percentages but I have been informally sorting for maybe 8/9 months and I have some observations:

1) My percentages of late are going *up* not down
2) When I hit the local banks (the exception being my dump bank where I only take out nickels so I don't know what the penny situation is like there plus they have a coin machine that they're now charging everyone to use although its cheaper for account holders) lately I am getting more customer wrapped rolls than ever before
3) Plastic wrapped rolls of pennies are not yielding significantly fewer 82 and earlier cents than any paper wrapped rolls (customer wraps or commercial wraps)
4) While I was out at the local Wal-Mart shopping center I poked my head in there and saw on the shelves that they were totally sold out of quarter Coin-tainers and 1/2 sold out of penny Coin-tainers(they sell bags of all quarter wrappers, all penny wrappers, and an assorted variety of wrappers)
5) At the Dollar Tree 3 doors down they only had 3 bags of assorted Coin-tainer wrappers (36 to a package for $1.00 and they're cheaper than Wal-Mart where the same assortment is $1.96 for 48 Coin-tainers which is probably why Wal-Mart's Coin-tainer assortment stock looked untouched) available.

I think people are now more frequently searching the house and car and office for their spare change, turning it into the banks (or if they're really clueless CoinStar machines) and using the couple of paper notes (or gift cards/store credits if it's CoinStar) they get in exchange for their coins to pay their ever increasing bills. Some of them may now be forced into doing this because they've either totally maxed out their credit cards or are scared of pushing those balances higher and so if they are going to make it, they gotta turn in the spare change and use the proceeds to pay the bills.

I think this bodes well for those of us who want to continue to sort, at least in the short term. What worries me is when the little guys are totally out of spare change that's been lying around the house for forever :(

Deal & Hoard thanks for the welcome.
I’ve been reading the board for a couple of weeks and finally decided to see how friendly my bank was. I’m in central Illinois and get my cents from a small branch of a large bank, then deposit the zincs into another branch of the same bank.

Finished another Brinks box yesterday

651 Cu (10 common wheat, but filled a space in my Dansco album)
73 82’s
3 Canadian
Lots of pocket lint, sand and grime.
26% (with the 82’s and Canadian’s out of the equation. Those will be dealt with later)

Happy sorting
