On another group someone posted that they heard this a a question answer on Jepardy.

In 2009 the U.S. mint will make pennies the old fashioned way out of 95% copper because of the 100th anniversary of the lincoln cent.

Any truth to this?

It is true, but only special issues that you can buy from the mint. So don't expect to get any for face unless somebody accidently dumps a few into general circulation.

Yep, Just like those "90% Silver" coins they are currently minting.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Just remember that people sometimes do not so smart things, like break open an uncirculated set and spend the coins.
While the chance of a copper 2009 ending up in circulation is remote, it isn't impossible.

Any ideas as to how much 1 copper penny would be from the mint or will they come in rolls? With their shipping price of $4.95 per order might be a bit much for 1 roll of pennies.

It's a shame it won't be for general circulation. You could just buy boxes and boxes with no sorting involved!

I enjoy taking long walks off short piers.

I cant wait to get some! I want them now!

Copper ones would be nice, but I think it will be the zinc that will be worth the most. Made for general circulation, the first year of a design, could be the last year for the zinc cent...all these factors add up

I have never figured out how items that will be mass produced by the MILLIONS, including "last year" zinc coins, can ever have any sustained collectible value. They'll be like beanie babies: yesterday's rage & tomorow's garage sale cast offs.
