True, but if you want to take control of that football field stacked with pennies 50 yards deep then it will tie up a few of your bucks.

Someone said that most hoarders won't hoard more than a jar of pennies. I think that that is great. It will preserve the coppers for a longer time.
Example, Wierd Uncle Joe hoards a jar of pennies. He passes away in 2025 and his niece dumps the jar at the local bank for face value and I get lucky at the bank the next day. What could be better than that?
Second, make your connections with the banks now. If you're the first "wierdo" and they like you they will continue to cater to you and tell others to take a hike.
Lastly and most important, I am fairly new to the site and have been made to feel welcome. I appreciate that. I have learned a lot and hope that all other new comers to the site have the same experience. |

"I heard they still have copper in Michiganay" As a popular Comedy central Show may put it.
It seems everyone and their brother is sorting in Michigan or has/wants plans to sort (or possibly dump) here. I think if this keeps up were going to be the Zinc Capital of the U.S.

Hey Ardent...I was looking through some other threads and noticed that starwarsgeek has around 370 posts and has 3 stars so I wonder if 250 is the cutoff for that and 500 must be the cutoff for 4 stars. Love the comment on the padded room by the way...lol.

You must be right. I loose track of this stuff.
I should hit 250 soon so I will let you know about that elusive 3rd star. :) |

You are grandfathered in, moboman. Taking a Ryedale away from a penny sorter would be like trying to take guns away from an NRA member. You know I was being facitious when I proposed the 4 star requirment, don't you? Anyone serious enough to buy a Ryedale is more than welcome here, no matter how many stars they have.
The Ryedale is the ideal solution to one of the three major parts of serious penny hoarding. |

Is it a normal standard padded room or will there be copper pennies embedded in a clear lucite floor that you can't get to?
Also, will there be an internet connection in this room? |

| I am new to this forum and “temporarily” hoarding copper memorial cents. I used to go to buy bags of $50.00 pennies to go through and pull the wheats out. Now I’m pulling a lot more with the intent of selling at small mark ups. One benefit of having newbies is a wider source of pennies. If I want to sell my pennies I’ve collected in Minnesota, what is the chance that the guy in Rhode Island would have ever come across them. Heck, some of my banks hold the same bags of pennies in the back for a year at a time before they finally get shipped back to the fed or put in rolls for the businesses around town. |

I feel for all of you sorters clustered together.
Down here in Mississippi I think I'm the only one for a long way around.
Most tellers havee no problem with selling me at least what's in their drawers, and many will get all the spare pennies from the other tellers while they are at it.
A few will go so far as to get me boxes or bags out of the vault.
And these are banks I don't have an account at, I just tell them I collect old pennies!
I'll pick up an order of 24 boxes from my primary source bank today, my first big order since the 24 boxes of zinc.
I've been dumping near $500 a week in zinc at my primary dump bank, again no negativity from the tellers.
So ya'll stay away from Northwest Mississippi, ya hear! Don't want to mess up a good thing! |

They arent real pennies. They're painted on the floor, but you spend your whole life trying to get them. |
