10 rolls from a Canadian bank.
One marked "USA" yielded one war nickel (1945).
Other (Canadian) rolls yielded about 15% .999 Ni. |

I enjoyed my first attempt at sorting so much that I went a little nuts today (for me, anyway). I had the day off work so I went out and got my first box early this morning, then sorted it while listening to music. It was finished fast and I really enjoyed the hunt, so I decided to go out and get another box later in the afternoon.
I even stopped at a 3rd bank and asked for 10 more rolls! While grabbing my coffee at Starbucks I asked the woman at the cash for a roll just out of curiosity.
I'm just a beginner at sorting, but I'm starting to learn some of the terms. I guess CWR means "customer wrapped roll" and CWI refers to the commercial sorting company "COIN WRAP, INC". Even so, I'm not sure how to tell any of the rolls apart. Some are in clear plastic, some are in paper with the bank's logo and others are just striped or blank paper. When I saw the plastic ones, I thought maybe they would be from the mint since they're so clean, but I found a lot of Ni in them. The boxes both had a wide blend of rolls in them, plastic, and usually 2 or 3 other rolls of different colors.
Here is what I found:
1st box: 185 Ni 9.25%
1 roll : 2 Ni 5.00% From Starbucks (tube marked "RAPCO")
10 rolls: 78 Ni 19.50%
2 rolls: 8 Ni 10.00% Forget where I got these, they were bought a few days ago and I forgot to open them
2nd box: 238 Ni 11.90% Also found a 38,41,46,51,53,58,61,62x2, and a 2001 Year of Volunteers Proof Silver Dime 10 Cent Coin
I was amazed to find so much weird stuff, like a Paraguay coin, the 2001 dime and I also found a 67 rabbit in great shape which made me very happy because I really liked those coins as a kid and you hardly ever see them.
OTOH, I am clearly aware that my percentages are lower than most of the posts on this thread, and that is a bit disheartening. But I was happy to finally get 2 boxes done, and I REALLY liked finding all those other, older coins, especially the 38, which is in decent shape (to my untrained eye, anyway) |

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new hobby.
I did some research myself back in Nov '08 and my numbers were not so great. I still pick some rolls now and then but I do not keep accurate track of my findings.

I found a 1934 King George V over the weekend! It's pretty dirty but it's in decent shape. Keep up the hunt, folks.  |

CWR=Customer Wrapped Rolls - don't ask the bank for CWR as they do not use the term. I just ask for nickels - and get what I get. If they are mint fresh they go directly to the dump bin.
CWI-an American company only as far as I know. I've never seen CWI rolls in Canada. We have CDI instead - Coin Distribution Inc with branches across Canada.
You will get a WIDE variety of wraps in Canada. I even got 10 rolls in the white plastic reusable Royal Bank rolls once at a TD Branch. All pre 1982 :) and they must have been sitting in someones drawer for a long time.
The 2001 Silver dime is WAY cool! Silver in a nickel roll and Not For Circulation at that! Never found anything that cool.
Your percentages are in line with what I see - all over the map. It all averages out though. |

I was reading this and got the 'nickel Fever' and decided to run out and buy my first $100 CWR ever and see what turns up. And lets just say I was quite happy with the results!
