Still seems there are a lot of 100% Canadian nickels out there. |

They come and they go. I have had to hit a lot of different banks lately and beg like a wino to get CWR. Too many banks just want to give out the shrinkwrapped ones fresh from the Mint.

It doesn't seem like there are as many members who are still sorting Canadian nickels. Even with lower returns I can't see why. IMO there is a bigger market for 100% Canadian nickels than U.S. 95% copper. |

Haven't been doing much sorting lately, but I picked up a few rolls when I was doing some other banking today: 5 rolls 27 Ni (13.5%) incl 2 young elizabeth
Right now most of my spare cash is in post-81's and I've been working without a bank account so trading them for paper at a local bank is a bit daunting.. might get back into running the junk through vending machines to trade up for the good stuff though. I found a george vi that way at the eaton center pop machines a while back. |

This thread makes me green with envy! I'm a fan of purity in metals, and searching for .999 nickel would be such a thrill. Here in the states, I only find them on occasion.

20 rolls Cdn nickels 153 Ni (19.1%) including 13 young elizabeth and 1 george vi (1950) one 1954 y.e. chrome plated steel 2x 1942 george vi "tombac" one T&T 25 cent
I'm pretty happy with the three george vi's, don't see all too many of those sorting. |

I used to see tombac nickels a lot when I was a kid, but I actually have not found a single one in all my sorting. I've found a lot of the chrome plated steel nickels, and have even found one American silver war nickel. |

Now that I think about it, those were probably the first tombac nickels I've found sorting. I've only found one wwii steel so far (a '44) but several of the korean war era ones. Does anyone know why those look so different from the wwii steels if they're supposed to be the same composition? I have a few more 44-45 v's that I bought at a coin shop, and none of them seem to have the blue tinge of the 51-54 steels. |

I bought and hand sorted a box of nickels today for a change of pace. I did manage to find 2 silver war nickels and quite a few pre '60 including a '39. With 1 exception, all of them rather worn.
I was hoping to find some Ni Canadian. Only 2 Canadians in the whole box, both late '90s.
I also sorted a coffee can full of nickels I have been slowly accumulating for the last year or so. I got skunked there.

I picked up 5 rolls of nickels to put into the hoard after work yesterday. These were the machine rolled types that are open on each end. I normally don't bother to crack open these rolls to search them, but one of the end coins was a 42P silver war nickel. That was the first silver nickel I've found in over ten years. |

I picked up $200 FRNs worth of nickels yesterday. I decided to make a push on them again before they come out with the steel nickels. I almost forgot how heavy a nickel box feels compaired to a penny box. |
