I have a box of 2000(D) cents that I picked up from a local bank in a brinks box dated 2003.. I was hoping to see some copper cents in there, but they look ALL BRAND-NEW (possibly uncirculated) no scratches, dings, finger prints or anything.
Basically, are these worth holding onto? Should I put them on eBay and see what happens? If I do, should I put them as circulated or uncirculated? Or should I just take them back to the bank and say I want to exchange this for another box?
If I do the eBay thing, I will let everyone know.
Thanks for your input and* advance!

cent guy, Can you afford to park the $ in this box for long term. There are or will be opportunities for UNC. rolls in the future. If you want to start dumping some, try taking a few with you when you go to the coin shop, coin shows, etc. They can be a good bargaining point. You may find dealers who will trade other UNC. rolls with you. I would trade some of my current UNC. 2008's for some of your 2000 D's even. I sort to make a little bit and the only way to do that is by being creative. P.S. are they in shotgun rolls? |

No, they are not in shotgun rolls, they are in the brinks plastic rolls. That confused me because I thought they would be considered circulated, but someone who knows a little about grading (which isn't much) said they were still considered uncirculated.
So yeah, I'm not sure if they are (circulated or uncirculated) but they are all 2000 (no mint mark so D) and look hot of the press. If I were to put them up on eBay, do you think any would sell? I'm thinking $0.99 buy it now..
What do you think? I'm not interested in hanging on to them. |

| What constitutes true uncirculated coins? Must they come directly from the mint, in US mint wrapper? |

AAHHH that word circulated and/or uncirculted. So much depends on you as to what you think is one or the other. If a coin is produced by the Mint and sent to a bank, does that constatute being circulated? If the bank now hands that coin to you, is it further circulated? You take this coin, hardly ever touched, and hand it to your brother who collects them. Now more circulation? He in turn puts it into a 2x2 flip holder and sells it on ebay as a ??????? Just how do you get a true uncirculated coin? One that is made by the Mint and sent out in a plastic container is surely uncirculated or is it. That coin also is sent to someone, somewhere and again it moves throughout civilazation but is it circulated or not? This is why there are now so many grades of Uncirculated coins all now listed as MS. There is MS-60, -61, etc. If I were you I would put them all up for sale on ebay as UNCIRCULATED COINS. |

Lack of mintmark means P, not D.

Valid point, I guess one who grades would have to take a look as I'm not a collector nor one educated on grading.. I'm taking your advice and putting them up tonight, a link will be posted in the for sale section.
Thanks!

Uncirculated 2000(P) cent rolls will have some value in the future due to the "wide AM" error that was discovered for that date. On typical 2000(P) cents, the letters "A" and "M" in "America" on the reverse will be practically touching; however, on wide AM cents, there will be a small, yet identifiable space between those two letters. The going price for this error is around $10 a piece in unc. condition. I saw some rolls like yours on ebay recently, which went for around $7 if I recall correctly. In short, these rolls do have a premium and should be saved or offered to collectors.
Here is an article that explains the error further... You must be logged in to see this link. |

Thank you for your help! I'm not big into grading and errors, more so the metal content. Maybe this will help me appreciate it more?? hahaha |
