I use several banks as source of my bricks. I find the brinks to be more zinc as opposed to the smaller banks. My advice is visit the smaller banks as opposed to the bOa and such. The return rate on a brick is still in the 20% range so I haven't had any preference yet.

I don't know if I want 'shadow watchers' or "Brinks researchers" to be able to piggy back and use the data against us.... like cutting off our supply or drowning us with zincs or something.
Is that a danger? Should we have precautions? Should we have a "Member"s only section on the forum? So only those who've posted so much can see it?
I don't know...just being overly cautious I'm sure.
Drowning us with zincs? Like the Mint has been doing since 1982 or so? Naa - I wouldn't lose sleep over the penny police. There's no interest in pennies, other than recovering copper.
You could lay all your zincs out on newspaper and spray paint them, I doubt anyone would ever see more than a few returned because there are so many. It'd be fun to try. I think I will with brown primer next time. |

I recently found this forum and have been lurking for a couple of weeks. I wanted to respond to this post, so I registered.
I was sorting some hand-rolled pennies from my credit union last week and found 10 zincs marked with sunshine yellow paint. It was the texture of kid's tempura paint, though I don't know if that would adhere to a coin. The funny thing was that they weren't all in the same roll . . . there were four or five rolls with just a couple of marked zincs in each one.

I just dumped 4 lb of marked zincs at Forum Credit Union in Indianapolis. They use Brinks. My mark is a green T on the obverse. I'll try to mark some of every batch I return. |

Just marked about 400 zincers which I will release tomorrow evening at a Commerce Bank in NC Co. DE. Red and black on the edge.
I got a short piece of scrap angle iron and set it on supports with one end elevated. Stacked the coins in the vee, as if they were wrapped. Put a piece of masking tape down the center of the coin stack and sprayed the exposed side. Waited 10 minutes for paint to dry, then moved tape to cover the already painted side, and hit the other side with a different color.
I know someone had posted suggestions for different colors for different regions, but red and black is what I had on hand. |

I think I will start using a sharpie to mark mine that way too.. much easier than engraving. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Sorted 2 - $25 Brinks Boxes-Sealed Dated 3/17/08 #'s on the boxes - 45 on one and 170 on the other
Found 3 of my marked pennies with a green T on them.
My dump credit union uses Brinks for coin pickup and my source credit union uses Brinks. I picked the coins up on 3/17, less than a week after dumping them on 3/11. I only dumped the 1 - 4 lb batch as it was too much work. It served it's purpose. |

As I said. I received 3 of my marked pennies in a Brinks Box less than a week after dumping them. I only marked 4 lb of pennies. |
