No penny/gas trip last week, but I am going to go sometime this weekend. Have my two boxes ready....Haven't done a lot of sorting, just buying, so zincs are getting more rare around here. Can't decide if I should go to the same station or switch it up.

THis is hilarious..... somewhat mildly cruel, but hilarious! Only cruel because of what people take as norm, and how they respond when things go WAY out of their norm!

I'm going to try it!! But can't where I normally get gas cause it is just an island and I don't think their slot box could hold or fit a box of pennies! :)

"May your percentages ever increase!"

I have struck again....$50, same store, and ready for this, a repeat employee! One employee was the guy from last time who didn't know what to do with the pennies....We made eye contact as I walked up and his eyes immediately dropped to the two boxes of pennies in my hands. So, being who I am, I walk to his counter....He definitely remembered me. He said nothing to me. I put the pennies on the counter and told him what pump I was on. He said "Fifty bucks." I pointed to the pennies. He pushed them to the side and asked the next guy in line if he could help him. I looked at the cashier and just smiled an ear to ear smile and told him to have a nice weekend....Is that cruel? Do I have a problem? Probably yes to both....The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. I could have gone to another line, but now HE is my cashier every time I see him.

Deal

p.s. I drive an SUV and $50 doesn't even fill it up any more....Might need more pennies next time....

They're going to say you got $70 and only paid for $50 so you don't come there anymore.Hell Wifey's Tahoe takes $80 to fill it,and not sure $50 ever would have.
And yes it may be a tad cruel on the pennies but at least entertaining to us.

Great story NotABigDeal! I knew you could do it. You are a fun guy! and a zinc diposal hero. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. You have certainly set the bar high.

You keep this up and they are gonna revoke your gas pump card. Right now your favorite guy is probably trying to figure out how to deactivate your card.. LOL.

That is hilarious. I agree you need one of the hidden cameras setups in hat. The video would have to be a Youtube popular hit. If you go the same place, tell them gas has gotten so expensive you have had to hit the penny jar.

When you bought the gas were the pennies in Bank wrapped rolls or hand wrapped? I fear that they wont take them if they are hand wrapped in fear of shorting. I also dont want to write all my personal info if they ask if I try to spend the rolls.

Thanks, and a very interesting (funny) thread you got here

When I buy gas I use bank wrapped rolls. I roll them myself with my 2 machines. So far I have only used a brick at a time. I need to step it up if I am going to keep up with NoatABigDeal. It is a little trickier here.. everything is prepay, so I have to walk in with the pennies first. A little more challenging than buying the gas and then telling them all I have are pennies.

The only reason I roll pennies is to spend them there! All are rolled with my Royal Sovereign. I'm all for the counting them if they want. (see previous post) I don't write anything on them. Why would I do that? It's a gas station not a bank....

Just made my first zn dump. Commerce Bank has "Penny Arcade" coin counting machines in their lobby, no fee, no account needed. As a bonus, when the teller had to come change bags, she through some coins from the reject bin (from a previous customer) back in. I got a bonus 75 cents! Plus, she handed me a silver dime that kept being rejected, (also from someone previous)!

I'm hooked!

I use Commerce too. It's amazing. So you know, their Penny Arcade machines have two bags for pennies, each hold $50. I usually go with about $150. They're really nice about it, but tend to look at you weird if you fill $100 worth ten seconds after they just replaced the bags. Currently I'm cycling between four Commerces. I love their late hours.

I have used those machines before. They only count something like 400 coins a minute. I quit going there because it took forever....You must have a speed machine. Around here they have four bags that fill by weight. They each will hold $50 in pennies, for a total of $200 in pennies max before a refill, IF they are ALL empty before you start....They also charge 10% to nonmembers. They always seemed to jam....Good luck with them. Keep looking for a loose coin dump bank.

A NEW RECORD!!! $51 in zinc pennies at one gas station!
NotABigDeal set the bar high.. but I beat it! It is much more of a challenge for me since all gas stations in Northern CA are prepay. You have to convince them to take the pennies before you pump the gas. I failed on the first attempt.. the guy wanted me to take them to the bank and cash them in.. "Ve have on room for dose.. just take dem to da bank!" I just drove down the street and convinced the next station to take my 2 Bricks and 2 Rolls for gas. Just told them how poor I am and how I am scraping together my pennies to buy gas.

NotABigDeal still has an advantage on me since he has an SUV with a bigger gas tank, but gas is more expensive out here in CA. The sad thing.. $51 didn't even fill the tank of my Toyota Camry.

Now it's time to start thinking about setting a new grocery store record.

You guys are crazy.I couldn't even imagine going up to someone and giving them $50 in pennies.I should do that if I have a prick of a tenant move out and I have to give them their security deposit back, give it to them in Pennies.I did buy a car off my buddy once and gave him a $1K bag of state quarters.

It's not so bad giving them the $50 bucks. It's like a game to me now....Try it, really. Start small, maybe $10 in pennies $10 cash, mix it up at first.

I just used $5 in pennies to pay for gas this morning no problems, my first time!

Yes, $5 isn't much, but I decided to start small and even with the $3.25 per gallon I am only using about $10-$12 a day.

So if I can get my regular gas station to take my pennies for gas there's one outlet secure!

Congratulations William. You are now an official member for the pennies for gas club. That is part of the reason I started this thread.. so we could all share ideas on alternative ways to dipsose of our zincs. Of course I love reading the stories that NABD posts about his adventures also. Going to your regular gas station is a good idea.. if they recognize you as a regular customer they are less apt to give you problems about occasionally using pennies to pay for your gas.

Is it now time to start paying your local bills with bricks.

The offices for Time Warner Cable and Verizon are just three minutes away. Both give lousy service, but the way they are I bet they could "interrupt" your service.

Most of these establishments already have policies in place against accepting pennies for payment. I think it all started when folks wanted to pay their PG&E bill with pennies. Oh, I soooooooooo wanted to pay the PG&E bill with bricks of pennies this month! Would have had to use the cart to take them in.
