Sorry no X-Rated stuff. I'm just not to that level(yet?), but still you might like looking at these:
Unsorted Penny Stack: You must be logged in to see this link.
Beefy Boxes (a 7,100 gram box is about 46% copper): You must be logged in to see this link.
Note: 7,260 grams is the heaviest box that I have found so far. It is a hand rolled boxed that I have not looked in yet.

Nice stack of unsorts! I wish I could have a surplus of boxes, but a $25 box of cents to me are like a christmas gift on christmas morning-they get opened ASAP! |

Thanks for sharing. The most unopened boxes I've had is 4. Hope to change that real soon. |

Brinks was wondering where that missing shipment is. So you are the cause of the penny shortage, huh? Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I suspected you had a pretty good stack going. I still think you are holding out on us.. there are a few more you are hiding somewhere. Maybe you should have labeled this thread "Show us your Stacks!"
Here is my stack of unsorted pennies..
Should be enough to get me through Christmas.. if I pace myself.
If I don't start sorting a little faster I am going to have to start weighing the boxes like horgad. |

Thanks rosebud100.. So that's why there is no money in my wallet.. LOL! I guess I am getting a little behind on my sorting. You're not supposed to count the nickels. There are lots more of those, but most of them are in a seperate pile. Let me see if there are another half dozen boxes of pennies laying around here to add to the stack so your estimate will be right. Should be getting a lot more pennies and nickels this week. Picked up a few boxes this morning at one of my banks and they told me their vault is overflowing with penny and nickel boxes that customers have turned in the last couple of weeks for Xmas, so I will have to scrape together some more money and take my cart down there. |

They come free with a box of pennies.. minimum purchase $25. I should have lots of spare ones once I catch up a little on my sorting. If you want nice new penny boxes you can order them from a banking supply company. N.F. String & Son sells some nice peekaboo boxes. I think they come in bundles of 25 or 50. |

"I still think you are holding out on us..."
Well as far as unsorted pennies that is pretty much it. I may let it grow a wee bit larger, but eventually I will have to cut it off. I'm thinking about a 3 months supply is about as high as I want to go.
This week I have 50 boxes on order and plan on sorting 25-30, but soon I will drop my orders to match my sort level and the only thing that I will do to that stack is replace the lighter boxes with heavier ones.
By the way does anybody want to make a educated guess on how much weight your average concrete floor can hold? Or maybe I'll just try and keep my stack one box smaller HCBTT's and wait for him to report that his floor just cracked. That way I will know when to quit... |

That's why I don't stack the nickels with the pennies. You have to spread the weight around a little bit. I will just keep stacking them up and let you know when it cracks. I think your stacking system is probably better, but it makes it harder to count. |

Yeah the "towers" stacking lets me get some added stability and height by overlapping, but still gives me a way to organize boxes by weight. The downside is that there is some wasted space and they are bit harder to count. |

Better keep your stack at least 8 boxes smaller than mine.. remember, your boxes are a lot heavier than mine.

Good point. If I'm not careful, I'll end up being the one to warn you that your floor is about to crack instead of the other way around. Not good...not good at all. |

Figure your average garage can hold two automobiles quite easily - figure 2 Suburbans at 5800 pounds each - that's 1450 lbs on EACH wheel.
Of course it's spread out somewhat across the floor.

Thanks that makes me feel safe. 1450 lbs on probably less than a square foot of space should be safe. That is like a stack of penny boxes 48 levels high if you made a tower with 2 boxes per level.
If I figured it correctly, I have about 2 wheels of one of those Suburbans sitting on a 3x3 space. To extend your example even more imagine jacking up your Suburban so that only three points are touching the floor. (Should be no problem for your average garage.) Plus you got alot more weight on the front than on the back.
Based on that, I think that I will stack my towers even higher. It seems pretty safe to go to 3 suburan wheels in a 3x3 space.
If my garage floor breaks, I can tell my insurance company that I was jacking up a friends Suburban. Wonder if that is covered? |

I take it you re-roll and put them back into the box?
I'm still teetering on the edge of doing this in a big way.
Think industries with big heavy machines, steel fabricators with racks that hold their stock, and places like Home Depot that have sheetrock and plywood and blocks racked and stacked on heavy shelves. I'm not sure the thickness of the floor, but it's probably 4".
But, I've also heard that residential contractors will cut corners on the thickness of garage slabs, so you may want to spread the load somewhat.
As far as tower height goes - what about earthquakes?

My stack is for unsorted boxes. My hoard storage info is top secret, but I will let slip that I am not a re-roller.
Also my stack has support on 3-sides so it is pretty stable, but if it falls it falls. As long as nobody is sleeping under it when it happens, should be no damage done.

Whoa...plastic pennies?? Where do those come from? Replicas, toys, play money? Are they valuable? |

great to see your oddities. thats one of the reasons i enjoy hand sorting. ive found two of those plastic imperial brand play cents. in both cases there was still 50 real coins in the roll - the plastic one was a bonus. |

Horgad, it seems I found one of those pennies thats engraved with the state of Indiana. Its a 1974 no mint mark penny.
Do you happen to know any information on state engraved pennies?

I think I have about 6 or 7 of those state engraved pennies. I am trying to put together the whole set from circulation. Talk about a challenge.. LOL. Mine are dated 1976. There was a promotion where they engraved the 50 states on BU pennies and then charged some ridiculous price for the set. Over the years some of these have slipped into circulation. Occasionally I find one while sorting out my hoards of copper cents and set it aside as a special keeper. |

"Where do those come from? Replicas, toys, play money? Are they valuable?"
I haven't really recognized any of them, but I assume they come out of various play money sets or maybe some games use them. They are totally worthless as far as I know. I just find it pretty funny when I pick one up to sort and realize that it is plastic.
"I found one of those pennies thats engraved with the state of Indiana."
OHHH! Indiana! I need one of those.
"There was a promotion where they engraved the 50 states"
I figured that it must have been something like that, but I never bothered trying to figure it out. Sounds kind of like some of those silver and gold plated pennies that were made for promotions off and on that occasionally pop-up.
Maybe we can start trading duplicates to help complete our collections. The only duplicate I have right now is that Kennedy head looking thing. |
