I got bored today so I played with a couple of my zinc pennies and some chemicals, here is the result:
The pennies are coated in zinc, and the "gold" one is just a result of heating one of the zinc plated ones. The zinc ones don't look this shiny for long, and after sitting out for a week they look copper again. The brass ones don't fade though. I figured some of you might find this cool.
This should explain some of the "mint errors" you guys have been finding.

I have found a couple of pennies that fit this description... Why not do this to all the zinc pennies and then return the copper to its solid form? Perhaps it's illegal I don't know.
