Thanks, I'm pleased.  The canvas bag came out of the vault. I'm guessing they dumped multiple counter hauls into it over a period of years. There were notations on the tag to that effect, w/ amounts and dates. I regret not asking if there was another bag, but hey, there's always next week! |

i decided to step up my game...ordered ten boxes of halves, 4 have come in,
box 1 64, 66, 2)67, 68, 2)69
box 2 65, 4)66, 6)67, 7)68, 69
box 3 2)65, 2)67, 68, 69
box 4 66, 4)67, 3)68, 2)69
finally some decent box averages....NICE
1 90% & 41 40%....I am still amazed....my other six boxes should be in on Wednesday...then 4 more on Friday....start all over next week. |

Silver halves are scarce in my area.. so I went to Phoenix yesterday and raided Charlie's banks.
I knew I was gonna probably hurt my percentage.. but how many of us can go into a bank and not ask for half dollars?
Went into this Commerce bank (One of the rare banks that I don't even have an account with) and asked them for halves. They had $9 loose in one of the teller trays.
Got a shiny one!

I also talked them out of $10 in pennies.
My mom was still doing some signiture card stuff with one of the bankers so I told her and my brothers that I was going to go check out the Chase bank I saw 2 blocks away while they did their thing.
Walked down to Chase. Made a deposit. Then asked if they had any half dollars. The teller I asked didn't have any but he asked the guy next to him and that guy had some, so I stepped over to the next window.
He had 1 $10 roll.
Silver!
Well 1 anyway.

I also talked him out of a box of pennies. He apologized that they weren't new. I told him that was Ok, I like old ones too. Hey, I can't go into a bank and not try to score some pennies.
I know from reading the copper threads that the percentages are slightly lower than I'm used to.. but I'll take them anyway.
Of course bringing those 70 rolls of pennies through the airport in my aluminum briefcase was interesting.. as you might imagine.
I got profiled! Always seems to happen to guys with cases that show up as large blobs of metal on the x-ray machine. The TSA gal was good though.. she called it. She asks.. rolls of coins, right? Wasn't really a problem. We went behind a screen and she unloaded my rolls into one of those trays and them reran my (much lighter) briefcase through the machine again and it came up clean.

You got two proofs counting the 68S.
Next time I fly, I am going to try some gold and silver in my pockets/carry on.

| Got the magician coin open, its a hollowed out Kennedy half and the backside pops out with a Mexican Centavo fused to the other side. No other coins or supprises in the hollowed out area. Pretty cool find. Only found it because I was rim searchings and dropping them 2-3 feet in the dump bag. Immediately heard the dull sound of a hollow half. Other than that I would have never seen it until the coin machine rejected it... |
