1976 clad proof.......no silver...
I am to pick two boxes today that came in last Friday...Does that count as last week's pickup or this week?
Hey Country I was just being funny in my own little world just thought of sharing with ya'll....I halve been remodeling my front bathroom and am way behind on the half searching they are starting to pile up...and my pennies well I may halve to truck them off to CA and get Hoard to sort...now that pile is growing real fast with no time to sort them I know he can blow through them in a few minutes |

I'm tracking SILVER finds by the month. The posting date is the date I use to determine which month to apply the data found within everyone's posts. |

about searcher marks, I have seen 22 different marking's...no z but have seen a red v...best/worst is the red bullseye on jfk...that takes some time to do. The most I have seen here is the "red slash-er" got nearly 50 in one box last week.... |

I haven't seen boxes like that for at least a year.

$1500 Halves (3 long, single layer boxes)
Skunk
On the bright side, one of my half dumps won me an extra $500 through my dump banks deposit contest.

Obviously I have been going about this all wrong. 2 boxes at a time ain't gonna get it.. the magic number is 6! |

I don't know about that.. my pennies are starting to back up again too. And I can't even use the excuse that I am sorting too many boxes of halves. That day job really interferes with a guy's sorting schedule. |

Those last 3 boxes must have been rough on you. Still way better than mine.. but probably a bit of a comedown after the first 3. Better order 6 more boxes immediately.. there is still one companion box out there somewhere. |

Actually I think this batch was all connected. I get them from two banks across the street from each other that share the same service. These six boxes are the first batch every week. I get 5 more today from two other sources that have completely different services.
If you look at my previous weeks, you will notice that all six boxes seem to come from the same pool of coins. The previous two weeks have been absolutely sparse on silver and when I got silver, it was only one coin per box, just enough so I couldn't say skunk. I notice how the boxes are populated with dirty and worn coins, the prevalence of certain years or range and spread of the years and the number of NIFC's etc.
You know as much as you all sort that you get a feel for your boxes.
All these boxes had the same amount of BU and almost perfect 1997's and there were a lot of them. These all did not have the fine scratches I usually find on 1995-98's and did not have the face scrapes. This and the fact that there were almost no NIFC's in the batch plus the overall look of the coins.
I also had a lot of face showings on the three boxes I sorted first. I went for the silver rather than wait on purpose. I needed the boost. I have been sorting 11 boxes (halves) a week all winter and pickin's have been slim.
My guess is that when my order comes in, the coin service puts 3 bags in the hopper and turns on the roller. Probably one of the bags was silver heavy and the resulting boxes were not homogeneous.
I think it was all one batch. What I meant about previous weeks was that the six boxes have seemed to be all from the same batch each week.
I don't expect to find more from this batch, it hasn't been running that way and although I would be in heaven, don't think it will happen.
It does give me hope that the goods are still out there!
No, I think the 5 boxes today will be the real anti-climax but you never ever know.
All part of the fun.
Sure gave me a boost. I was just thinking of tapering off for spring/summer as I have a lot of outside work to do. Coin sorting fills cold winter nights! But now...
The addiction continues.

FANTASTIC!!!
I can't believe you found that 1927 Commem. half. Is the half the rare 1927 Vermont Sesquicentennial (Mintage 28,142 - Wild Cat on reverse), or the 1926 Sesquicentennial of American Independence (Mintage 141,120 - Liberty Bell on reverse)?? |
