Wow, how'd I miss all of this?

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

They did turn around fast, yes. I finally surrendered to the majority of those who enjoy TV, after a long debate. A little stirrup like that is always good for finding one's inner opinions.

That episode was great. The guy was so mad, I thought he was going to use the pistol and beat on the cameraman.

Have you seen the one with the guy who brought in the bullwhip from Indiana Jones. He got a pretty confident look on his face when the expert quoted a large dollar amount, but then looked really ticked when he found out his whip was nothing special.

That one is hilarious. I think the experts are just trying to have fun when they throw out big prices then say it isn't worht that much. "I've seen these sell for 2000 dollars...... but this one is only worth 100."

Lol yeah....kind of cruel, but it makes for good tv.

I also get a kick out of the idiots that bring stuff in, get it appraised and then ask full retail price for it, or ask the top full price for what it would sell in an auction setting. Hmm...somehow I dont think Rick and his crew would be in biz for long if they paid full retail/collector pricing.

You and me both...can't we all just get along? hehe...

Let's step back for a second...I think the frustrations over the TV comment were the result of some built up frustration.

Kirkland, we are always happy to have new members. Realcent is a tightly knit community with a ton of collective knowledge and expertise. There is a lot of valuable information here, as you have already discovered.

In the interest of a successful future for you and others on Realcent, I'll offer a little bit of constructive criticism. I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes. You are not the first new member to meet some resistance, and you won't be the last.

I believe you'll find the reason for some of the friction in this thread in your own posts.

We have all noticed your (very) high daily post average (38+ posts per day). There is a reason nobody has said "congrats." Nobody here judges a member's "worth" based on post count. Rather, people become valued and respected members by making helpful and informative posts, and contributing to discussions. We all very well could post as much or more than you, but what's the point? All that would do is clutter up the forum with lots of comments that don't contribute to the discussions, and slow the search function down even more than it already is.

Is this how you're going to treat a new member with your hopes of getting 1,000?

It sure seems to us, or to me at least, that it's your hopes of "getting 1000" that are leading to some of these issues. There is no reason to rush to get 1000 posts; it's really not a big deal.

If you don't have any information to contribute, that's perfectly fine. Nobody has the answers to everything, and nobody expects every member to answer every question, so there's no need to post "don't consult me" every time you don't know the answer. Again, a member with 100 posts that are all helpful and informative becomes much more well-liked than a member with 1,000+ superfluous posts.

This site is very much about hoarding copper pennies. It is very much NOT about post counts. There are all sorts of discussions about penny sorting, other forms of copper, gold, silver, scrap metal, survival-scenario preparations, economic and political news, and a plethora of other interesting odds and ends. As you said earlier, the internet is a great resource, and Realcent is one of the best places to go to learn about metals. Hopefully you'll stick around, learn lots, and contribute whenever you can . (Hopefully you also don't hate me now...none of this was meant to be insulting, I'm just explaining my observations from the perspective of someone not at all involved in the TV argument).

Lay off, will you?! I've already apologized for some of those statements! I'm not saying I'm better than anyone with my many comments, okay? I didn't mean anything wrong in the first place. Some of you threw this thing way out and I was just trying to defend myself against all this unnecessary stuff. I'm sorry about the anger, and I think some of you should be sorry about what you said to me. I joined this site because I didn't know so many others were collecting copper cents like me. I never meant for anything like this to even come close to happening. Can we give it a rest already? Now I feel like I shouldn't have joined if everyone is unloading on me because I post my thoughts frequently. Please quit it!

Listen now, I want it to be known that I am not competing with anyone else to get 1,000 posts, alright. I want to be treated as an average copper penny hoarder with much information to learn and share in these forums. I am a peace-loving person and I never did mean for anything to happen. I want all talk about this to end now, so please forgive me. If you acknowledge the forgiveness, can we all move on and act like nothing happened? I promise to not post as much as I do if you find it irritating. I'm sorry. . .

I'll make one last set of comments, and then be done in this thread in regards to you.

One, I agree with everything natsb88 said, and back him 100%. He is offering some constructive criticism from the view of a person not previously involved in the thread.

Two, an outside viewer of the thread can see that you brought this upon yourself. Your first three posts in this thread were:

1: "I do not watch TV and I am proud of that."

2: "I get enough entertainment from pennies, nickels, and silver coins. TV sucks people in and I can't stand to sit through commercials."

3: "Yes, but I still don't think TV is all that much worth it. You don't gain anything from it, and you could be doing much more rewarding, fun, and exciting things than sitting and watching TV."

After re-reading the flow of the thread tonight, I still question what your intent was in making these posts. Were you trying to stir the pot or were you simply posting in order to get to your goal of 1000 posts? Either way, you came into this thread in an antagonistic tone, so you can't complain when others question you or fire back a little. I don't blame them one bit. You're only digging yourself into a hole by jumping into threads in the manner you did.

It wouldn't be much different if someone jumped into a copper sorting thread and said "there's nothing to gain by sorting copper cents" after a few had already shared their thoughts and views on it. I hope you see and understand what me and others are getting at. Like natsb said, we're a tight knit group of people, and new people are always welcome to the site, but when it appears that they are either "post whoring" or stirring the pot, you will see resistance.

With that said, we do hope you stick around and can become a valuable contributor to the forum. Good luck.

The reason I said that at first was not to anger anybody. That's not the kind of person I am. Can you PLEASE forgive me. I was not trying to post my way to a large number. I just want to share information and have fun! Many people have read this and many people now have written me off as a cruel or mean person. I don't want you to think that way. I can't believe I let something like this happen. All that excitement I had when first joining this forum - now vanished and tears of agony and defeat and sorrow now stain my laptop keypad. What has happened?! :-(

Dude.
Wow.
I saw the thread "Anyone watching Pawn Stars?" early on and read the first couple posts, and my thought was, "Hmm, never saw that show. Oh well." And I didn't come back to the thread. But then I KEPT seeing it popping up as an active thread, and wondered, "What in the heck can they still be talking about?" So I checked it out, and just read all three pages at once.
Dude.
Wow.
Here's what I think.
In a couple days this will be old news. In a month this thread will be forgotten. Just like a LOT of stuff I posted about, that I thought was pretty important. Eventually just about every thread gets buried by other stuff. So wait it out. All things must pass, as the great George Harrison said.
Oh, and by the way, I don't have any problem with you posting a lot. Except for when you pass me. Just kidding.

Hey guys. I'm not going to get involved in the frequent posting part of this thread, but I do have something to add to Kirkland's comments about tv. I don't watch much tv myself. Haven't for the last thirty years, but mostly because I stay very busy with time consuming interests that just don't give me time to sit in front of the set. I have a few favorite shows, like those mentioned that are primarily educational, but I don't pay for cable because for me, that would be a waste of money. What tv I watch is second hand off Youtube, and I wanted to thank Cesario for mentioning this show, as now I can look forward to watching an episode off youtube when I need to unwind the brain and relax. Kurr, have you ever tried the series of teaching media from The Teaching Company? Great stuff, available from libraries for free or:

Anyone watch tonight's new episodes? There's a 1932-S Wash Quarter that is being reviewed...

Update...they brought in a coin expert and it was a fake. The "S" was added to a 1932-P quarter.

I think Pawn Stars is a great show and have not missed one episode since it started. I did catch last night's show about the "32-S" quarter. Its sad that she did not have the real deal because she got that quarter in change and held on to it for so long. But like Rick said its still worth $3, lol.

The sad thing with that quarter is that it would be worth $50-$75 or more in that condition if they hadnt altered it. Maybe some collector of counterfeits will pay a premium for it still but they ruined that one.
