That's pretty broad considering how many different designs there have been for dimes (Roosevelt, Mercury, Barber, Seated Liberty, Bust). Are you looking for key dates in a certain series?

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

The key dates in the Mercury Dime series are as follows:

* 1916-D - With a mintage of only 264,000 this is by far the rarest Mercury key

* 1942/1 (2 over 1 date) - Overdate type for both 1942 and 1942-D, mintages are unknown but the type is extremely rare

Semi-key (scarce) dates in the Mercury Dime series include:

* 1921
* 1921-D
* 1926-S
* 1931-S

Thanks Slickeast, that is the kind of info I'm looking for, I have been buying junk silver and the guy has a bunch of mercury dimes, I figured since he does not mind me picking my way through I could keep an eye out for key or simi-key dates. There are lots of AU or XF coins in the junk silver, If I can double up and get a key date and in good condition then why not choose those over the common date coins that are at least as worn if not more so.

Oh man I love bust dimes. I wish I had the budget... and the singular focus... to build a set of those.

Not completely true you know. The 31D is the 4th lowest mintage in the series, not the 31S.
The 42D/41 is usually a higher priced but that is only due to so many missed since it is not easily noticed as with the 42/41.

Also, as with the Jefferson Nickel, the Roosevelt Dimes are just not a biggy with many collectors so the values are really small. Even in MS grades, there is nothing really in the high value area. Possibly due to high mintages, very plain design, this coin is just not to valuable. Possibly if they would change the design, this series would go up.
