I asked the teller today where they get their cent boxes from. K.C. was the reply. Then the teller asked "Why do you care?" I gave my routine explanation in about one minute and get a response of "cool" from the two ladies, one of the guy tellers acted all educated and said "We live in a capitalist society and everybody wants to make money, just because it's easy doesn't make it right." I told him that it is hard to resist keeping 2 pennies that together are worth about a nickel. He shrugged and said, "I don't care and would never intentionally hoard pennies and it is unpatriotic to "take advantage" of our country at a time when it is caught up in a war fighting for our freedoms." WOW!! what a loser. I asked him if he was an Iraqi, he replied, "No! But you must be a terrorist. At this point I noticed his manager 6 inches from his back and told him to have a nice day. He said sarcastically "enjoy your pennies". I probably won't see him anymore.
This is kind of disturbing.... Next time tell him your hoarding the copper's so when we run out of bullet casings, you can re-supply by selling them your copper pennies. Also tell him that we would not be at war, if it werent for his banking buddies devaluing the dollar by debasement and a fractional reserve banking system. (Federal Reserve) Tell him that he should thank you for preserving some coins for your and his children. Hopefully he is gone next time you go. Be sure to return many times. Good work Frugi. _________________________ Real Eyes Realize Real Lies

"No! But you must be a terrorist"
Holy moly! The U.S. government robs the savings from its honest hard working citizens every day via inflation and somehow we are the criminals for trying to hang onto a little wealth before it all has been snatched away from us. Makes sense to me.

Last week when I was sorting, I saw a lot of wheats. One box had 36. Usually for me that means the copper percent goes up, but for some reason this time it did not. Still it is a good percentage and the extra wheats are always nice. So last weeks results were...
7 boxes sorted 12,373 zinc returned 5,127 coppers hoarded 29.3%

I keep hearing that they have none to sell. I was told by a teller at MY bank that they couldn't get into the vault because the vault teller wasn't there. I have never been told that before. I was offered her pennies at her station. She had $4.50. Not quite enough. I guess I'm going to have to break down and have them order me some.

p.s. Any other K.C. area hoarders?
I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Crazy to think that K.C. ships pennies to St. Louis. Doesn't seem very cost effective. As far as the teller, it is his job to provide you with banking services, not to render judgement and question your loyalty to your country. It is not like me to say this, but I think I would demand that he loses his job. If that didn't happen I would close all my accounts. His behavior is not acceptable.
As far as sorting, I need to do it. Busy week at work. Very little sorting done. I did return a bunch of zincs, much to the dismay of old ladies and little kids at the coin counter. Still waiting for the jugs of pennies as well. That will be a blast sorting. That's it.

I think we have all had to deal with rude tellers, but yours really takes the cake Frugi. I think my response would be to go in next time with all my zinc to dump and tell him "Yep, you are right, I shouldn't hoard.. that is why I bought all my pennies to you" <EG> You may have found your new dump bank
Pretty busy at work for me this week too, so I didn't get much sorting done. Like NotABigDeal I did dump off a lot of zinc on Wednesday. Then I found out the bank manager at my dump bank was on vacation this week so I managed to sneak in an extra 12 bags ($600) of zinc yesterday <G> If I try to do much more than that in one load it gets a little tough getting it up the incline ramp at my dump bank. I will probably still get busted though.. the armored truck left before I got my zinc dumped at the bank so the manager will probably notice all those bags of pennies stacked up in the vault and won't even have to look to guess where they came from.. LOL.
I need to get out and find some more pennies today. I didn't preorder any this last week.. only preordered 2 boxes of nickels and that bank flaked on me this week. I have a bunch of boxes of pennies stashed away so I will have some to sort while I try to get some more.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

Comments on the dumb bunny teller that Ryedale encountered.
"We live in a capitalist society and everybody wants to make money, just because it's easy doesn't make it right." Was this fool saying this when the banks and lenders were offering ARM loans to housing speculators? I doubt it since the bank is in business to make money making loans. If this teller stated that dumb quote to potential lenders, he would find himself out of a job.
"...it is unpatriotic to "take advantage" of our country at a time when it is caught up in a war fighting for our freedoms."
What could be more patirotic than to horde pennies, considering the one cent coin has the face of Abraham Lincoln on it, the president who led the nation through the dark days of the Civil War. There is no better way would to honor our country than to hoarde pennies with the face of one of our most enduring images of freedom, the man who freed the slaves, President Lincoln. (And by the way, during the Civil War the majority of citizens hoarded silver coins. Was that considered unpatriotic?)
Sounds like you found yourself a teller who is a NeoCon Kool-ade addict, Ryedale.
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly. |

You should always keep a few extra boxes of unsorted pennies stashed away for those times when you can't get any from the bank.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

| I have been going through dimes lately. I just got 4 silvers from my last box. A 1964,2-1954, and a 1952. I also found a silver 1952 dime in my roomates change. I switched to dimes because, I can't keep too much of my money in nickels. |

Just to clarify, Frugi had the run in with the teller, I just goofed when I quoted him, and deleted too much in the text box. No big deal just wanted to clear it up.
