Coin sorting report for yesterday: 7 rolls customer wrapped dimes Not only did I not find anything, but one roll was 3 dimes short. Ouch! Almost wiped out all the extra dimes I got in my penny rolls. I think I will stick to pennies and nickels.
3 boxes pennies (2CWR, 1 BWR) 1558 Copper 4 darn dimes 20.77%
A few more than I had before

I finally got organized enough last week to report some hard numbers. Normally I don't track how many boxes I sort let alone count how many coppers were in them. Then I realized the coin counter where I return zincs was giving me all the info I needed if I would just count the number of boxes inbetween return trips. So...
Last Week: 5 boxes sorted 7,429 returned zincs 5,071 coppers a very high 40.5% copper
The numbers last week were skewed in my favor by two unusual Brinks boxes. One box had 89 wheats and the other box had 91. In addition the boxes were loaded with UNC 79s, 80s, and even some UNC 59s. I didn't count them specifically but the 2 good boxes had to be over 50% copper. I doubt that I will ever see boxes like those again... |

Buying Report for today: Got skunked at 2 different banks for pennies today. Got to remember to preorder. Fortunately I have a few boxes squirreled away here and there for dry spells like this.. heck, I even found 50 loose rolls rolling around in the trunk of the car. Next week should be much better.. I have 3 shipments coming in Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for a total of 60 boxes. That, plus whatever I can manage to pick up this week on my drive bys should be enough to get me through the holiday weekend.
Bank of America - Livermore 1 Box shiny new Jefferson Dollars
Sorting Report for today: 14 Boxes pennies (1 CWR, 13 BWR) 7367 Copper 12 Darn Dimes 21.05%

Found my fifth Indian tonight, a 1901. It was in an otherwise average Brink's box.
The five Indians: 1881 1893 1901 1902 1907

I've sorted a minimum of 85 boxes since I started my hoard. So the odds for me have been about 5 in 212,500 or 1 in 42,500. |

Got burned out on hand sorting pennies so have been silent for a while. Been sorting halves for something different. But, got a hankerin for some black fingers and picked up a box of pennies from Wells Fargo today.
440 copper 70 82s 6 wheats -- nothing older than 41 1 copper Canadian
Total copper haul was 19.28% counting half of the 82s with the copper. Not a single damn Indian head, ever. That may be when I finally quit -- finding the elusive Indian in the bank rolls. |

Snappy, where I come from that would be hitting a main vein!! Most of the folks on here would consider that a really good bag. Sorry you only got one of them though. Why did they say they shorted you?
This morning I picked up the first of 4 shipments I have coming this week.. 24 Boxes ($600) all there.. they didn't short me. Will have to see how tomorrow's shipment goes.. It is only for 12 Boxes and from a bank I haven't gotten a shipment from in a few months.. so it is iffy about whether it will show up or not. The other 2 shipments are for 24 Boxes each.. one on Saturday from the same bank I picked up today's shipment from. They have been very dependable. The other shipment of 24 boxes on Friday is from one of my main banks that I have ordered from pretty regularly. They usually show up but they have flaked on me a couple of times in the past. These, plus whatever I can pick up on my drive bys this week should be enough to get me through the holiday weekend.

No sorting yet this week. Picked up $750 in Credit Union Loose Bags over the past 2 days....went to 4 branches total...."A" had $350, "B" had $150, "C" had $200, "D" had $50. "A" said they typically have about $400 - $600 per week in pennies....that is by far the best source discovery I have made in 6 month!!!! Will probably have to go there 2X per week. They took in $200 in penny just today!
Should be a good hoarding week.

not to sure the assistant vault teller told me a while back that they are on a contract and they pay for deleveries/pickups if they use them or not and are limited to the contract. I told the vault teller I wanted 200 but not to go over their limit (I don't want to be cut off or charged a fee)
Another thing I just found out some might think this is odd that I did not know this because I live in a very small town (2000 people)in the middle of no where (nearest town with walmart 50 miles away and in another state) The person that lives directly across the street from me is the vault teller for WF! I am a quiet person and don't visit with my neighbors often. They only moved in a year ago or so. I see her mowing the lawn I guess I should be more sociable. |

Yes Snappy, you want to be more sociable with your neighbor. You could be her new best friend.
Looks like I get low percentage of the day again with 20.24% My best box (22.24%) was nowhere near Snappy's worst. Guess I'll just make it up in volume <G> Still a good day. Any day you score at least one box of pennies to sort is a good day.
I even found 2 pennies on the ground at the gas station. Will add them to the zinc pile for redemption. Folks still don't value pennies, they just throw them on the ground.

Just had to brag about some CWR I picked up yesterday.
$50 Customer Wrapped Rolls CWR
63 zincs, none newer than 1984 4957 copper 5020 total No Canadian
98.745% Copper.
Must have been a closet penny jar somebody finally wrapped and turned in from some estate. I thought they could be a hoarders stash, but there were too many BU pennies from the 60's 70's and 80's, plus the 63 zincs. Perhaps they were a hoarder from 1984 with great foresight. Thank you hoarder from 1984 whoever you are.
Now this does not complete my activity for the week, but it sure is inspiring, while cutting the rolls open you could just tell it was a rich vein, so I did not mix it with other loose.
More to come.............Andy

"98.745% Copper"
Wow, I'll never get that with my crumby old Brinks boxes. Did you set aside any of the UNC coins or pullout any wheats? I hate to think of the UNCs getting thrown in with your giant hoard circulated coppers.
I got a jar that sits on my sorting bench so that I can pull out and separate any Brilliant coppers that pass my hands. Shiny is the only criteria that I use for separation. I know that it is kind of goofy from a nusimatic perspective, but it is quick and that is the important part... |

I haven't mixed them in with the bulk yet, I'll probably go through these and do exactly what you mentioned. I have the same type of container building up, with "shiny" as the only criteria too. The old 60's pennies look really neat for some reason, Lincoln's head is actually bigger on the older coins. I have used a micrometer to measure this (I know....KOOK). The BU ones really jump out. I figure 20 years from now when I'm retired and selling off the hoard, those can be in my display case at the shows.

its stories like ryedales that keep me going with this hobby. Somewhere tonight there is an empty water-dispenser jug which used to hold all those pennies......no such luck for me today however: 20 rolls: 1 bank wrapped and 19 hand wrapped 260 copper for 26% and a rarity: not one wheat 28 1982's 4 copper canadian. it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some people will go rip somebody else off, however small: 1 of my pennies (a 1969S)was clipped down in size around the perimeter so that it was the same diameter as a dime, i am guessing to fool a vending machine? who knows. good thing that 69s wasnt a double die...

Great story, Andy! I think you now have the all time record for the best percentage. I thought I was the only guy that had one of those AU/BU buckets for the shiny copper cents.. LOL. I guess a lot of us are saving those shiny ones.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.
