Went to a coin show today and actually found a few things. Neckro beat me there and scooped me on the cheap silver.. getting it at 9.5x face. They wanted 10.5 when I got there.
But I was able to add 6 mint sewn bags of copper pennies to the hoard.. a 59, 2 63's, a 64, 64-D and a 68-S.
Also got a blazing red roll of 1967 British Large cents for the copper hoard.
Also scored some great deals on Canadian nickels.. getting rolls of George V's (Mostly 22-31 with no 25 or 26) and VI's as well as BU Rolls of 54 and 55 Liz's for 1.50 each! Also picked up 100 each proof cents and nickels from 64 and 65, BU rolls of quarrers from 1970 and even some BU Canadian Half Dollars.

They cost a pretty penny. Those mint sewn bags are getting tougher to find. They tend to go significantly above melt. |

Who in there right mind was selling $2 rolls of Canadian nickels for $1.50..? Even with the exchange rate, they would have been $1.72ish, and they are Ni to boot. Sweet deal. I'm assuming you bought every roll he had...
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the UK pennies?

I bought every roll of nickels except 1. It was a roll of BU 53's. He wanted quite a bit more for those because they cat fairly high. This is where it pays to buy stuff from dealers that don't specialize in things. He just wanted to blow it out.. it was part of some larger deals he had done and didn't fit in with what he normally sells. Picked up a roll each of 86-P&D quarters from him very cheaply also. Why are those going so high?
I got 31 of the British Large Cents (What would fill up a half dollar tube) for $4. I have several circ ones in my copper hoard already, but these are the first firey red BU ones I have come across. Very nice looking coins.
I also made arrangements to get together with him at a show next month to buy the rest of his Canadian stock (a couple of $hundred face). Should be some nice additions to the hoard. I will try to take some pics soon. |
