Is it just me? I have only sorted a few boxes, and they have been spread out over a couple weeks, but I am finding a ton of AU-BU 1974/D and 1975 cents.

Unrelatedly, I also just found a couple 1968-D BU that look thicker than normal, and with a ton of cameo. Proof?

d's arent proof. it'll either be no mint mark or S mintmark for proofs.

A lot of the coins in the 60s look thicker than the 70s & later. I think they struck the business strike coins a lot harder back then.

Brian, I've also been finding a lot of AU 74/75's. I also find a lot of AU 67/68/69's, as well. I think it has to do with a big hoard of pennies that was dumped on the market. Could someone enlighten me on this?

I just finished my last box from this bank, and got maybe 75-100 AU-BU cents from 74/75, with almost all of the 1974 cents being in perfect condition. Each roll had at least one, and some had 3-5.

There were also a bunch of AU-BU 76/77, and 67-69.

I'm a small-time sorter but I've been noticing an increase in AU/BU coins (many from the mid-70s)as well. Of course a large dump is possible, but it could be something else. Is it possible that some of these coins have been laying around the U.S. mint or Brinks for three plus decades? The fact that some of us are ordering dozens of boxes of pennies at a time might force the banks to order more and maybe this unused stock is being thrown in to fill the orders. I say this because some of these coins look like they've never seen the light of day much less been circulated.

Also could be that people are emptying penny jars and such because of the economy.

I've wondered if something like this was plausible for a while, myself.

This is definitely happening. Wish some of it would come my way.

in my last 10 box batch, a lot of AU/BU 1973-S are coming out. Kinda similar to what Brian is reporting, but with different year penny.
