I was handsorting today and I found some very shiny, proof-like, 1964 and 1965 Canadian cents. About half a dozen in all. They were so brilliant that I figure they were broken out of a set so that the owner could sell the silver or maybe just spend the higher denomination coins. How can I tell if they are merely BU coins or if they are, in fact, proofs?
As an aside, I also found about half a dozen 2009 lincolns too. Some woodchopper, some cabin. Also a King George. I got my $25 worth.

In 1964, Canada produced Proof-Like Mint sets, similar to our US mint sets. True proof coins are struck more than once. They will have the mirror like surface, sharp details, and the edge seems thicker than its BU counterpart. |

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. – Theodore Roosevelt
