this last week my family and i went to BIG 5 and did some survival shopping. i decided to get the $5.00 jerseys. we found a set of three with the sizes and gender neutral colors we needed. the next thing we need to do is have our family name ironed on in the back. i originally thought that we'd each have a number as well. a designation number for each member. dh would be 01, i would be 02, dd would be 03. however, dh thought to keep it simple and cheap with just the family name in back. RED SLEEVE jerseys would be good for us to be able to spot each other out in a big crowd. in my mind i see these shirts in our GO BAGS. since i have recently bought our dd new undies her first group of undies can now go in her go bag as well. at the 99cents only store they are selling kids and adult shirts for 99 cents, of course. i bought a shirt that fits a 6 year old. currently our dd is 3 years old. the idea is to have this in the GO BAG as well. with oversized shirts that could double as a dress, if need be, a few days worth of undies and a weeks supply of diapers (just in case), she would be ready to go.

I HAVE BEEN planning the change of clothes for our GO BAGS for some time now. one of the things i realized is to pack older clothes. stained and holy are ok for various reasons. one, you want to match the group you are with. breaking out a new work suit/dress/shoes would not get you in with the crowd. instead it would get you noticed as a person who has more than others. two, you don't want to be accused of looting.
i have already separated clothes that are ripped, stained or holy. instead of giving them away i decided which one i would keep and put in my GO BAG. They had to still fit, be comfortable, and be slightly out of date. they had to look like they had been worn for some time now. AND THEY DO. socks and undies are a different thing. i want my socks to be strong and in one piece. my undies had to fit me. they had to be in one piece, as well. yet they had to be dark. just like my bottoms have to be dark. i don't want blood stains showing up strongly if my monthly bill comes and i do not have any feminine hygiene supplies available. basically, they had to be my GRANNY PANTIES.

for dd here is what i had planned for her. since she is 3 years old it is easier to pack more things for her. two to three changes of clothes for her. short sleeve, one pair of shorts long sleeve shirt. one pair of pants one t-shirt. at least 4 undies. one sweater, one jacket mittens, muffler, sunglasses and safety masks. BAKING SODA
for dh here is what i planned for him.
TOP BOTTOM shirts a pair of short shorts long pants undershirt underwear 1-2 2+ BAKING SODA dh t-shirts could also be used as a shirt, just like the classic jeans and white t-shirts of the 50's
for myself, a female, it would be the following TOP BOTTOM shirt(sleeves) a pair of short shorts (black/navy blue) long pants (black/navy blue) shelf bra granny panties bra 4+ BAKING SODA
THE BAKING SODA is for washing clothes, bathing, and cooking. |

I'm curious. What type of emergency are you planning for? At this point, outside of a civil war or a massive terrorist (nuclear?) attack, I can't envision a scenario where I would have to flee my home. In fact the whole point of my stocking up on supplies is so I can hunker down during a time of social unrest. If the time ever comes where I have to fight to defend my life and those of my loved ones, I would rather have the home field advantage.
I guess the other scenario could be being caught away from home. My wife I both work 15+ miles from our house, so I suppose an emergency 72 hour bag might be in order for that. Are there any other possibilities on your mind? |

| I keep a pair of scrubs in my bag. I travel by car daily up to 100 miles from home. Want a change incase of need. They are too big for me, but with scrubs you can always roll, tuck or tie to make them fit almost any one. |
Awake, O kings of the earth! Come ye, O, come ye, with your gold and your silver, to the help of my people, to the house of the daughters of Zion, to the help of the people of the God of this Land even Jesus Christ. |

| Caridad, when you say your "backyard survival plan" are you talking about bugging out in general or are you literally referring to your backyard? If the house was destroyed by fire, I'm not so sure I'd want to camp out behind it at the very least because it wouldn't be a very uplifting sight to see while you're planning how to revamp. On the other hand, if you're looking to bug out because of looters, etc., even in LA, I'd much rather sit on my front porch with my 12-gauge Mossberg and make things inconvenient for wanna-be looters than to let them inconvenience me. I totally agree with Theo, my preparations are mostly to allow me to "bug in" if something happens with modifications if I have to hit the road, rather than planning how to transport large quantities of whatever prep items and relocate. |

| my backyard survival is for my backyard. my bug out is for exiting town. my backyard survival unit is portable. i live in a suburban area where there are no brushfires. so that's no worry to me. earthquakes are what worry me. |
