One of my banks mentioned that they would take my halves loose in bags. They said it would have to be sent and counted first before it would show up as deposited in my account and all I would need would be the bag number (this was ripped off and given to me). She didn't give me a deposit receipt and put my deposit slip inside the bag itself to be sent off.

Takes a couple days. At my dump bank it would have been credited by Thursday & a receipt mailed back to me. |

That is certainly convenient.. except for the float. The counting center may have had higher priority items to run than half dollars and your sack is getting set aside as they ran coins they needed more in anticipation of not having Monday to process coin.
Policies vary from branch to branch. At one branch of my dump bank they send it in and I have to wait for count verification before it is posted to my account. At another branch of the same bank, they credit my account immediately and I walk out and pull the cash out of the ATM right away to buy more coins. Can you guess which branch I dump at more often?
The other evidence of your deposit is that plastic strip with the bag #. There will be a log at the branch where they record that bag # and what was in it before they shipped it out. That log at the bank will also tell them when the bag actually shipped out to the processing center. Most banks do not ship every day, so if you are going to use this method for half disposal you need to know when they ship out. You said they left Tuesday, so that means they really only had 3 business days to process them. They will most likely run them and credit your account this coming Tuesday or Wednesday. Always good to know exactly where your money is, but I wouldn't get too pushy or they might decide at your branch to discontinue this service. I'm sure the impending holiday had something to do with the processing priorities.
Does the armored car that picks up the bags take them directly to a processing center, or are they sent to a central location and then shipped from there to a processing center? The processing center is most likely an outside coin processing center rather than one at your bank (even though they claim it is going to a central vault) and it could take a day or so for the processing center to transmit the data to the bank and then for the bank to post it to your account. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Yeah...what HCBTT said.
I wish I could dump in bags.
Isn't it amazing how one bank differs from another. even if it is the same bank but just a different branch.
you just have to learn how to work the system. |

When I was sorting nickels and dimes, they let me do that, but they let me have cash. This with the agreement that any discrepancies at the fed would be adjusted to my account. There never were any. |

I can return loose and uncounted if I want, and receive instant cash in hand. I don't do well with waiting. It took a lot of searching to find a few banks that will take coin this way.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |
