Timing is everything. I dropped by one of my dump banks today to get rid of a few measely boxes of zinc I had time to roll up and met a couple of high school students and their teacher at the merchant window just as they were finishing up turning in the proceeds of their Penny Drive. They were talking about all the hard work of counting and rolling up all those pennies and I offered to help them out on the next penny drive by volunteering to count them up using one of my high speed counters, and even converting them into fiat for them.. nice guy that I am. We are all set up for me to be their official penny counter for next year's drive.
And even though the bank had the rolls of pennies already sealed in bags ready for shipment, they let me buy all 800 rolls ($400) of them. I will run these as a seperate batch and see how it compares to the normal boxes of pennies I get.
I think I might start contacting schools and offering my services and machines to facilitate their penny drives. It would be a good community service.. and of course, it would be a great source of pennies to help grow the hoard.

The penny drive yielded 7764 coppers.. 19.41% which is typical for my area. I haven't sorted all the wheats out of the copper yet, but I did find a really nice 1910 in XF so far.
There were also 13 dimes.. oops, somebody was supposed to get penalized for those.

lol.. I don't know. All these high speed counters and I didn't even bother to count them. The roll count was correct, but I opened them directly into one of the Ryedales.

Good score. Sounds about right - nothing really special from any penny drive coins I've gotten a hold of. Maybe someone will raid grandpa's jar the next time around!
