I called the county school district and my daughters private school to see if they had any penny drives planned for next year. They told me to call back at the beginning of the school year.

Has anyone ever got involved with a penny drive and bought the change from a penny drive?

I've thought about it, and searched on the internet for penny drives going on in my area. Nada.

Penny drives go on all the time, but I think info is generally distributed locally. So unless you get the newsletters or your kids are in a school that's having one, you wont be able to buy the pennies.

My plan was to get in contact with the coordinator of the drive. Find out which bank is accepting the pennies (sponsor). Offering to buy the entire lot from them in bags, so all they need to do is count the lot. Then making a goodwill donation to the pennydrive school. It would probably be a win-win-win situation on all sides.

do a search on this site. there were some great ideas. one was to offer to count them, and to do it by homeroom or whatever. competition is good. if you have a cs-10 this is no problem at all.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

I am about to get a cs-95 and i would offer to count them daily so they could have a running total.

I think that the private school might take me up on it. No lugging coins somewhere and they would get paper money everyday that the drive was going on.

Let us know how it goes. I'm guessing that private school administrators are a relatively close knit bunch. If you could provide great service at your school, word might get around, and they'll ask for your assistance with other schools.

One time I walked in to a branch of one of my credit unions two towns over I'd never visited. Asked for pennies and nickels - they were really happy! They had just received the results of a penny drive at a local school. It was a pretty good haul.

I think setting up a penny drive at your kid's school would be a good idea. Best if you can count onsite and write a check to the school. No need for them to roll the coins.

I have. I counted all the coins for them. I was tipped off by the bank! The lady was very thankful, she said they would have taken them to coinstar had we not done it.

Hopefully they'll call us back again if they ever do another penny drive.

I just hooked up with one at a high school near work today. I am all set up to do their counting for next year's drive.. which they are thinking about running all year now that they know they don't have to count them and roll them. I met the student leaders and their teacher at the bank today when I was dropping off a few boxes of zinc. They ran the current drive for about a month and raised $400.. which I was able to buy from the bank, even though they had just finished bagging the rolls for shipment. Timing is everything.

I think I will be contacting more schools and offering to do the counting for their drives. The Mach 5 is a little slower than my Mach 7's, but it is portable, and at 3,000 coins a minute it should be able to get the job done.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

All the schools around here are all about "silver" coinage. Silver in this case is clad coins...=/ Called the local schools around my town and they all say we don't get many pennies in our drives. Sucks but oh well.
