Hello,
New to this method of collecting grabbed my first $100.00 worth of halves today. Found 1 40%. Was wondering if anyone is doing this in the Hardin County, Kentucky area?
Also I ordered a box $500.00 Suppose to be in Wednesday. :) Cant wait....

My Fri night box: Skunk!
Hey Gumby -don't let it get you down, I too frequently get 3-4 box skunks in a row. It will turn. If it doesn't, find a new pickup.
There's a background to that statement. One of the banks I used to pickup from switched delivery agents. My typical take from them dropped to about 1 silver every 4 or 5 boxes. Meanwhile, my other bank was still delivering an average of 3-4 silvers per box. At the time I was doing 3-4 boxes per week. Now I'm down to 2 because I have a harder time dumping them. |

Did a drive-by of a BOA branch on my way to work yesterday. Never hit that bank branch up before but hit other banks on that block at other times. Asked for halves. Tellers were nice and said they had $10.50 in halves and four Eisenhower dollars to sell. I spotted a silver rim on the halves as she handled them. I was at least a little satisfied with this random drive-by. I ended up with a nice condition 1964 Kennedy and four Eisenhowers. The others were non-silver. It is definitely hit or miss with tellers as far as if they have half dollars they have not searched themselves.

Searched a $500 box Friday: 4 40 %'ers and a Silver Bicentennial (now if I could only find a '70!)
The local S&L says their coin counter should have the half bag changed soon and all tellers have promised to call me... |

It's precisely because the Half (not to mention an actual really made from Silver) Dollar hasn't been seen by at least a generation or so that we can find then today.

I have a couple questions
if you order a box and open it and find coins that where marked. Do you still go ahead and search though the rest or do you just take them right back to the bank.
If you are marking them what exactly is your point? |

I had a guy buy 30 dollars worth of them from me when I bought a soda with some. Happy to get rid of them |

I've gotten lots of marked coins, in fact, I think every box I've gotten has had at least a few marked halves. Usually the box still has a few silvers in it. As long as you have them, you might as well sort them. You never know what you're going to get.
Personally, I don't mark, but I imagine the point is to see if you get coins you marked back again, and/or to make it easier to sort when they do. |

I usually find marked coins in boxes and even in CWR's. I still sort. I mark the rolls I dump with a black circle about 1/4 from one end. I've found CWR's with a black line down the side that are duds. I've found my own dumped roll at other banks in the same town, so I'm pretty sure there's at least one other hunter pretty close. |

Sorted a $500 box today: 1 '68D 1 '03D My dump bank said they had 3 rolls they took in today (they usually only get Halves from me) and asked if I wanted them. "Why, sure!", sez I: 1 '64P 1 '66D 1 '67P 3 '68's two D, one P
I think I'm going to go remind the CU I'm interested in that Half bag that is supposed to need changing soon. I might just open account with them so I can fill it and check for Ag. |
