Went to the bank a few days back and noticed in that change shoot/holder they have sitting there 2 half dollars.I also noticed they didn't look the same. After he cashed my check I asked him if I could have the 2 halves? He replied"sure, not I won't have to keep them around" a nice 68 and a 72.I only kept one of them

I spotted an overlooked branch of a local S&L down a side street about a block away from my favorite 50 cent dumping gas station.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, sez I ...
I had all the tellers looking for an '87 after lamenting that was the one last date I needed to finish my collection for the '80's.
One teller said he had $30 worth of CWR's and asked if I was interested. He opened one roll to look for an '87 and you could hear the silver ring when it hit the counter, not to mention notice the lack of a copper stripe.
I snapped them up as casually as I could, (it's hard to remain calm when such things happen). He remarked how happy he was to be rid of the 50 cent pieces and said how you don't see "those kind" very often.

Those 3 rolls contained 43 40% Kennedys and one 90% 64!!!

I've got to fight the urge to pop back in every other hour now.
Maybe I'll just stop back next Wednesday to see if anybody brought in other rolls.

There's profit if you melt things!!

In my 3 boxes of halves I managed to get $18 face in 40% halves and $11.50 face in 90% halves. Most of the 90% were 1964 Kennedy halves, the last was a 1953 Franklin piece, the first I've found. My oldest find is still a 1893 Columbian exposition half dollar.

Hey did you not know that there is no good coins to be bought at banks? Plus I read everywhere it is illegal to melt silver halves and no one will buy them from you! Any rate, silver is dropping again so why bother owning it? You can't eat silver, it has no fiber, and you can't even use it for TP like those handy one dollar bills.

I'm not smart enough to believe the naysayers, so I think I'm going to go bank hopping this afternoon in the US for halves and other fun stuff :)

Edit: Got to the border, well actually 2 miles from the border, and decided I would not spend 3 hours trying to cross the border to go bank hopping. Went to church, went to lunch, and took a nap instead. Who needs that silver anyway.

Not too hard to eye the tellers coin tray and see if there are any 90% silver coins mixed in with the clads. Half dollars are easy, but if you have 20/20 you might even spot some dimes.

Oh, my! I've been a slave to such an unrealistic concept for so many years...
Legacypac, thank you so much for removing the mist that has been clouding my rational and good judgment for so long now.
My eyes are opened and I'll be able to ask for more overtime hours at my job to help me pay my income tax (isn't WW I or II paid for yet?).
I'll probably have so much free time now I'll be able to pursue an activity that can actually enrich my life. I think learning how to knit booties so my feet stay warm will be so much more productive and make me much more happier when I get to retire.
How foolish for me to think I could find coins worth more than their face value at a bank!
All that time I've wasted!!!!

I think getting your money back (breaking even) allows you to join the elite club of "Wheeners".
My apologies to any accent that may be construed.
My dear Spouse lets me know I'm a "Wheener" when I get even money back on the State's lottery scratch tickets.
I'd prefer not to discuss what club she states I get to join when I don't break even.

You must be a newlywed. Soon you'll be in that other club even if you win 10 million in the lottery.

Visited a local bank today hoping to establish a connection to purchase half boxes and while standing at the counter talking to the teller I notice in her change holder a few halves and could see the silver "ring" . Bought all $9.00 worth. Net 6 40% and 2 64's. Also now have a new source bank for halves.

Today? It's awfully early anywhere in the U.S. Where are you located? Was this yesterday? Either way, nice score.

Ill be receiving 100 oz rounds soon, 1 SAE and this roll of coins. So im telling it felt good to have something good happen for a change
