Fri night take from the box = 1 40%

But I lucked out and got 5-'64s and 7-40% asking the tellers for their halves today.
I'm satisfied with that for the day.

The bank only had 3 rolls, so I bought them.
1 Franklin '61
2 Kennedys '64
1 '78 S Proof Clad
1 '2005 D NIFC Clad
I guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
Sort of makes up for my last Skunking.

This evening I stopped off at one of my alternate dump banks to get rid of a couple of boxes of zinc. Very convenient hours.. they are open till 6 on Saturdays. One of my regular tellers there said he had 1 half dollar, did I want it? Of course. He then said he thought the other teller might have some halves. She came over and said she had $180 in half dollars, did I want some? How many? "All of them, of course!" Then my heart skipped a beat when the bank manager asked if she had checked to see if they were silver, and opened up a roll to show her the edges. He tells her the silver ones are the ones I am looking for.. LOL. Then he says "the silver ones are like 1965 and older, right?" Never overeducate your bank personel.. LOL.

So I just sorted the 18 rolls and came up with 5 40%ers.
1 66
2 68
2 69

Not a bad little haul for just a few rolls of halves.
Any day you get silver is a good day.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Dump the clad and check them again about 4:00PM on Monday.
Are you sure you got all the halves they had?
Maybe someone is liquidating and they'll haul some more in.

Good Idea CJ. Sometimes when someone is liquidating they do it in several trips. Sometimes they run out of rolls, it takes too long to roll them, or they just don't want to lug them all at one time. They will generally cash them in at the same bank since most folks don't have multiple accounts like many of us. I would stop by that bank on a regular basis over the next few weeks. Odds are better than average that there will be more.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

4 rolls from a local savings and loan.
1 2006 P
1 2006 D

I used the dregs to buy rolled pennies about 10 minuets latter from a bank on the next block. They said they didn't have any halves, so I figured they could really use mine.

Asked for halves at my bank (they almost never have more than 2 or 3) and was floored that they had $65 worth. Traded my worthless FRN's for hard coin and started sorting. As soon as I dumped the bag on the table I knew it was going to be a good day. The color of silver stood out like salt in a pile of pepper. My first sort was picking out silver, one by one straight out of the pile then did a date check the second time around. After I was done, I got by best silver haul ever!!

(17) 1964 JFK's and (23) 40%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy $*%#!!!

One third of my halves were silver!!

Went back and TOLD THEM to hold ALL halves for me. It pays to ask and ask and ask!

Hirbonzig, nice score indeed. I hope the bank produces some more for you.

Hit up 6 or 7 US banks for all their 1/2s today, including a WaMu (no big lines there today). Keepers were 1x64 1x65 - someday the silver santa will visit but at least it was not complete skunk.

In the process of buying 1/2s I also got 1 new roll Alaska Qtrs and $100 in Canadian change including a few Nickel Nickels worth keeping. I was just making small talk when I stumbled into the "buy Canadian change" trick to make happy bank tellers.

Searched $270 in CWR today, total skunk. May have been someone's dump, all but 6 rolls had a red band around the center.

Has anyone tried weighing the rolls as they come out of the boxes to see if you can detect silver that way? Based on published values I would think an all clad roll should weigh in at 226.8 g, a roll with 1 40% at 227 g ,with 1 90% at 228g.

I am getting my first box tonight, will report my findings.

Folks, I going to order on Monday a $500 box for pick up the next week. Wish me luck. I may just convince my wife to "loan" me a few grand from her 2% money market so I can have multiple bank orders spread around town. The pursuit of switching from fiat to hard currency asset is getting to be fun now that I am up to the 50 cent category, lol.
