Nice! That would be a good experiment to find out. My guess is that the 90% are rejected if there is a comparitor in the machine. |

I'm guessing that the sensor in the slot machines is looking for a mostly copper reading on the half dollars going in. The 40% silver halves are mostly copper and therefore are accepted like the nickel/copper clads(?).
I will go back tonight and try some more silver mining,I was starting to get odd looks when I would cash in a bucket of half dollars and ask for wrapped rolls of halves back. |

It may be more likely that the 90%s have been pulled out by others. Pretend you don't even collect coins but are playing slots. If you are seeing Kennedy's face over and over and then Ben is smiling back at you, would you throw it in the machine or put it in your pocket?
If you are getting funny looks returning loose coins and asking for wrapped just have your partner return the loose for bills and then you go back for wrapped.
I wish I could find a casino to mine. All the ones around here are electric - no more coins. |

Also, 1952 Franklin and 12 40% |

The solution is to just take that fiat with Franklin's pic on it when cashing in your buckets of halves. Feed the note into the slot.. then hit the payout for your 10 rolls of halves. This way you don't even have to break them out of the rolls and you won't get odd looks from the cashier's cage. Unfortunately all of the casinos I go to are now TITO so I can't mine halves this way anymore.
Just have to do it the old fashioned way.. ordered another box this week. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Should have stayed home from the casino last night. I found 8 more 40% halves, but the temptation of the evil dice sucked me dry. Now I hope that silver will rebound to where it was a few months ago to get a few bucks back into my dresser top change jar.
I see alot of "penny" slot machines but they are all TITO (ticket-in,ticket-out)machines. It would be fun to sit at a penny machine after grandpa and grandma dump a dusty bowl of old copper into it and then go cash out all the cents to do some copper mining! |

I have yet to find an 87. Still hoping, and believing. Haven't been skunked in a while (toes and fingers crossed while I type) but silver yields very low. Only one, rarely two, 40%ers per box. |

went to a small bank in a near by town and got 3 cwr rolls. They looked newish and I didn't expect much. I found a 40% '68. Not bad for 3 rolls.
*Also last Thursday I went to a bank in my home town that had produced a large amount of silver in the past. I got part of a sorters dump and part of a "collectors" dump that yielded 12 40% and a dirty '64. |

I sortted $680 worth of CWR Wednesday. 2 Bens '51 and a rainbow toned '61 2 64 Kennedy's 6 40% Kenndy's I dumped the dregs at my main dump bank today and walked across the street to see if a local S&L had any CWR's. They said they shipped everything from the vault last week but, the drive up teller overheard me ask about $.50 cent pieces and actually ran over to ask me if i wanted any silver ones!!! "My, you sure don't see those very much any more. What do you have?" I really tried to sound casual. She plopped 2 '64 Kennedy's down (the ring almost made me sweat). I gave her a well worn FRN and beat a hasty retreat. You got to love those young tellers! If only it was that easy every time.
PS - Does anybody want to trade a '70 for anything? I'd also like to trade an '03 NIFC for an '87 NIFC. I'll pay to ship. |

Well, my box didn't come in this week.. but I was able to get a few halves at a drive by at lunch time.. 1 roll and $8 is loose halves.
The Silver Santa didn't visit me, but one of his elves made an appearance. In the roll I got 1 90% Kennedy. In the 16 loose coins I got 1 90% and 1 40%! I saw the silver bands as she was handing them to me out of her coin tray. Don't you just love it when you see those silver bands? |

I still have a tough time remaining "composed" when I see the silver stripe in the teller's tray. I'll have to work harder on my demeanor. I do wish it would happen more often, though. I'll guess I'll have to work harder on my "composure" factor. |

I got $500 in Brinks rolls today. Total skunkage :( Oh well, I cash them in tomorrow and see what awaits ... Life's one H*ll of a ride, hold on with both hands and don't let it throw you.
PS - anybody got a '70 they are willing to part with? |
