That was a great box.

Attempted to buy 1/2s Friday. Both banks I tried before everything closed told me "someone just bought them all a couple days ago". Hummm... I wonder what they heck they were thinking... Got $7 in 1/2s, no silver. It was fun to watch the mexican waitress go streight to the 1/2s I put on the counter like she had never seen something like that before. In my own small way I am getting the 1/2s out into circulation and hope some non-silver ones get hoarded out, so I don't have to sort them again.

I got tired of driving around looking for halves, only to be told someone else beat me to them. So I got smart and ordered a box. Just finished going through them.

Local CU has $550 in halves waiting for me, all someones collection. Rolls are from 1971 to 1977, no great coins in the lot, halve to pass on this pickup.

Magnetic sorters, no moving parts except the coins

Mon nite box = Skunk. try again Tues....

I hate coming off a good box into a skunk.
I wouldn't mind finding only 1 40%, but I hate skunk as a follow up.

I would be very happy with boxes like that. My numbers this year have been very poor -- in the 1 to 2 40% range at best. I have collected a fair number of skunks in 2008.

I got a visit from the silver santa today!

20 40% halves
1 90% half

I went to the cu and bought $90 in CWR halves. Seven were by one person and in those there was 1 90% 1964. But the last two had words from above on them:

"1965, 1966-1968 and a 1974 crossed out (thank goodness)" on one
"1967 ONLY (underlined)" on the other

Two rolls of pure 40%! These rolls had an address on them that was out of the county and that CU's service area too. Interesting

My heart beat always notches up a tick when I see stuff like that written on CWR's.

Awesome score, that's over 11%!

I'm confused.
20 - 40% = 1 - $10 roll
Two full rolls = 40 coins or $20

Which was it ?

Good score anyway you put it.

Yes

Going rate is around $6.50 each
which would be $260

If you have a 1955 in the bunch
then you did real well.

Nice score...

Thurs nite box.

I ripped open the top and what I shouted can't be posted here;
Staring up at me on top was a 1908 barber half in AG.

The rest of the box only yielded 1 40%
Somehow, I'm not dissapointed.

Still, it's a hobby that is paying off for ya. I'd love to do that. But it hurts for me to carry heavy boxes to and from a bank. =/

You don't have to get boxes... I just walk in and ask if they have any halves. I always get at least one silver. Today I got 15 dollars in halves from the bank and got one 90% and one 40%.

I shall do that, just get a few rolls of halves, sounds more reasonable to me now. I don't think there is a horder near me, other then Hoard, and he's an hr away.

Isn't that a wonderful start to a half dollar sort? I have only had that happen to me once that I recall and it was a Franklin, not near as fun as a Barber half. That's a good feeling when you open the box up and see a different design which you KNOW is 90%.

Box last night yield three 1968s. At least no skunking. I wish Silver Santa would show up soon.
