I been searching through pennies for a long time now and today I found something to be very odd. I went to my source bank and picked up $25 CWR and a $25 box (which I can see a wheat end). When the teller brings them out some of them have about 4 black marker lines on them. So now I am mad because it looks like someones dump (and nobody sorts in my area). So I go out to my car and open up one of the marked rolls. What rolls out is solid copper pennies, all polished. Some have been flattened, holed, have solder marks, and even been stamped with a 'J'. There was even 4 wheats in there in the same shape. Even more interesting is that 5 rolls are nothing but zinc.
So out of 13 rolls with markings, 8 rolls are crazy mutilated copper pennies and the rest are solid zinc. Very odd indeed.

Odd indeed. Oh well, coppers are coppers.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

So, were the marked rolls from the CWRs or from the $25.00 box???
Very strange, indeed. |

All the rolls that were marked came from the CWRs and the box was just a honorable mention. It turns out 12 wheats total were messed up (including a 1919). One penny was a 1974 with one of those JFK heads on them with a 'J' stamped over it. It was like somebody knew which pennies were copper and used them for their evil experiments and left the zinc alone (they were untouched). Then they marked the rolls and sent them back. I know that once I picked up some CWRs that were taped shut and turned out to be those nasty pond pennies, so it could be like the same thing.
