HoardCopperByTheTon, Do you sort by hand or mechanically? Do you turn in the zincolns to the same places you buy? Seems like you are spending a lot of time and effort doing this. |

I suppose I do spend a bit of time and effort doing this.. but I actually enjoy it. There is the the thrill of the hunt in trying to find boxes of pennies. And how many hobbies can you play at all you want and yet you still have all your money?
Currently I sort by hand using a nice digital scale.. I can sort about a roll a minute this way. I am about ready to buy one of those Rydale machines though. I am much better at acquiring the pennies than I am at getting them sorted, so I have a huge backload of unsorted boxes of pennies in inventory right now. I really need one of those machines to get my #'s up. I think just catching up a little on getting my huge stash sorted will free up more than enough capital to pay for the machine. It is the last piece I really need for my system. Anyone that wants to do decent volume really needs to automate to whatever extent they can. The disposal end I have fully automated already. I have 2 Glory automatic wrapping machines that each roll about 10 rolls a minute. I turn them all in at one of my banks that I rarely get any pennies at. I also mark the top of the box with a Z in case I were to ever accidently get one back.
Buying report for today: Washington Mutual - Richmond 3 Boxes Bank wrapped pennies 1 Box Customer wrapped pennies
I actually got all these sorted tonight - Usually I fall further behind. Sorting percentages for today: 3 Boxes - All shiny new - no copper - These were certainly fast and easy to sort. 1 Box Customer wrapped pennies 475 Copper 6 Wheat 3 Canadian 19%

Thanks for sharing....I've put my penny acquisitions on hold until I get a sorting machine. My bank keeps providing me with pennies people have turned in. I have about 100 penny rolls to sort thru. I bought a coin comparitor to build a cheap model of the Ryedale machine. Hope to have a working sorter this weekend.
The cost of a Glory Coin sorting and rolling machine is in the thousands. What model, and what did you pay for yours? If you spent that kind of money on that machine why in the world wouldn't you buy the Ryedale sorter. |

i got 20 rolls today: 302 copper. 3 canadian. among the copper were 10 wheat cents including a 1917 in good condition. i am new to this, but it is amazing to see how many uncirculated pennies there were in the years from about '81 - '90. i saw about 50 or so like that. some look like they just came out of the mint bag today. signs of the times i guess. people short on money are cashing in the pennies which they have had for years |

Biggest US Copper week yet. Sorted 30 bank boxes ($750, 75,000 pennies) this week. 32% Copper content in overall population. I do not wheat sort....they are still in there...
Added another 165 lbs to my copper hoard. I am now just 100 lbs away from my first ton. Will start on Second Ton sometime next week.
My Ryedale Coin-artist has just processed it's 1 MILLIONTH coin in about 2 months of operation.

I don't usually get hand rolled pennies as I don't want to spend the time visiting that many banks, but your finds sure are tempting me. In any case I am sorting 5+ Brinks boxes a week and I don't count coppers, but I can say that I typically get 1 wheat per 5-6 rolls. Last night, I got 41 wheats out of 50 rolls. It was by far my best box ever. Also had my best roll ever, 4/50 wheat. And lastly,I found my first ever steely. |

20 Rolls from a Central NJ Bank - Figured I might as well join in No phone or ID on the rolls so assume bank rolled
292 Copper 2 Wheat - 57, 52D 1 Two cent Euro - Never saw one before - seems slightly smaller than a penny Has groove running around the rim around the entire edge of the coin 1 Roosevelt Clad Dime - discolored looking like a penny
29.2% Copper |
