Are NIFC coins proof coins that some how went into circulation? What coins were made as NIFC?

Not Intended For Circulation (NIFC) are regular business strikes minted in lower numbers and sold by the mint (usually at a premium) to collectors.

Proofs are struck from laboriously polished dies giving a mirrored background and frosted relief, sold by the mint in limited quantities at a much higher premium. The highest grade Coinage produced.

A rose by anyother name would smell as sweet.

There were way to many '01P's minted and in circulation for me to consider it anything other than a regular business strike.

PS - If you want to collect '01P's I'll sell you rolls weekly for $11.00 if you pay shipping.

I think 2002 start NIFC, not 2001, from what I've read. And I believe 2007 ends it? Or is 2008 NIFC as well? What about 2009? Do they make 2009 Kennedy Halves?

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

|Trust me the 2001 Philadelphia halves were not NIFC. They are still produced and are still NIFC
NIFC= Not issued for Circulation

NIFC Kennedy Halves = 1970d 1987p 1987d 2001p and 2002pd- present

Why would someone pay more money that the coin was worth and then set them free in the wild?

I don't think you understand what is happening everywhere. Many, many coin collections are being robbed and the criminals dump the coins into circulation. Very few criminals are in reality Numismatist. People at coin shows have been robbed, houses with coins have been robbed, coin stores have been robbed. Collectors kids and other relatives find and spend coins from a collection. Many collectors pass away and relatives find those coins and don't have any idea what to do so they spend them as just coins.
Very few individuals that collect coins would just spend a coin that they spent more than face value on.
Criminals, even if they know the coins values, don't want to take the chance of getting caught attempting to acquire coin values.

I keep all the BU & coins I find (also proofs) to make sets & hopefully sell them by the roll later.

I've searched tens of thousands of dollars in halves. My guess is $20-28 thousand in the last few months alone, and I've never seen these before. That should speak something about its rarity.

1970d 1987p 1987d

The 2001P halves are not rare at all.

i know the 2001'a are not rare i think it was 21,000,000 million minted. They were on sale for the longest time on the mint website i think like 5 years. maybe the mint decided to dump them when they moved there facility

so 2002 - present is NIFC? Dang I just used a roll of BU 2005s with a couple 2004s in a trade with a buddy. Might have to get him to sell em back to me if they worth much more than face.

I don't like the "Not intended for circulation" terminology. Rather, I think of them as "collector demand only". This applies to half dollars minted 2002-present, and Sacagawea dollars 2002-2008.

To be honest, aside from the 1970 & 1987 kennedy, they really aren't worth mcuh of anything. The proofs & silver proofs are worth somethng though.

Mintage simply too high with too many BU coins.
