Was cracing rolls last night and opened a new box and every roll I opened were nasty.Never had this before.I've had a roll or two but never a whole box.I only opened 4 rolls and was just going to take back to the bank As I don't want to run them though the "machine" But not sure I want to hand sort either. Your thoughts?

| I swear every so often people with wishing wells, zoo's, malls, etc...go and grab all those pennies from the ponds, etc. Only thing that would make sense to me. |

I just got around $5 of CWR penny rolls that are nasty. They look like they've been chemically cleaned. Half the pennies appear to have a lot of surface area dissolved.
I dont even bother with crap like this. I just dump it in the pile to go to the coin sorter. |

| I don't know if this would get you anywhere, but if you have a decent size account and/or a good relationship with your bank, I'd complain. You can argue the that the bank has an obligation to sell you coins that are fit for commerce. A retail customer who was using the coins for change would not put up with this. At the very least throw them back to the bank. You don't need the aggravation. . .or the germs. |

I got $12 CWR from one poerson and every penny was horrible, They make that picture above look like BU uncirculated. Those are the pennies the government should pay us to melt. I think you take coins like that somewhere and get them replaced with a brand new coin and the old one is removed from circulation forever. |

| I got 7 $50. bags at one of my pick up banks. I was thrilled because most of the time they only have 1 or 2. They were pretty bad also. I have only had sorted 2 of the bags and found about 10 wheats, 6 or 7 Canadians and the copper count was not good either. Will see what the other 5 look like but there was alot of cruddy coins in the first 2. Very disappointing. Have better luck lately with the boxes but who knows. Picked up 3 bags from another bank and got lots of coppers but also had more cruddy coins than usual but also got 5 dimes and 2 nickels in those. Maybe pickings are getting slim. They are around here anyway. |

I have had it happen with CWR, but not bank wrapped rolls. Gotta love those "Pond Pennies." |

I've only found 100% crud with CWR's. The worst bag I ever got was about 25% crud-i-fied, and it sure didn't help the remaining clean ones much.
PS - I learned the hard way with bags of coins, dump them out first. Grabbing handfuls from the bag is NOT the way you want to find a straight pin! |

| Same here. I stopped getting CWR from a wachovia in downtown Wilmington because I swear over 75% ALWAYS looked like they'd been on the ground for a year or two. Also a lot of black tarry crud. - What the heck is that stuff I'm afraid to ask....?! |

| I just had a bag that I wish looked as good as the ones in Nate's picture. They were bent, cut almost in half, holes in them, corroded beyond recognition, plus there was over 1800 wheats in the bag. They were all different colors. There is no way the coins in that bag went through a counter, they must have just weighed the bag and sent it to the Feds. |

| Just curious about something. NDFarmer mentioned that "they must have just weighed the bag and sent it to the Feds". Does that mean that sometimes when you have your coins counted at a bank they go by weight and not coin count. The 7 bags I got all weighed 26-28 pounds. Seemed odd but figured they just had about the same copper zinc content. Should you count before you dump? |

The reason I said they must have weighed the bag is because there is no way those coins went through a counter.
Smartinson, The copper percentage must have been awful low on those bags. 28 lbs. is what I measure out when I take my zincers back. 28 lbs. puts the bags right at 5000 coins. |

OH wow, that is beyond gross! How disgusting... If you are caught speeding just pay the ticket and be done with it.
I've gotten a lot of crw rolls that have a lot of cents that have white residue on them and when you take them out of the wrappers a puff of white chalky dust comes out. I roll them back up and return them to the bank. |

I received a bag once that looked like it came from a beach with real fine sand. I mixed it in with my dumps....

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

I got some CWR once that had a bunch of stuck together pennies. Some were in groups of three. The Ryedale was a traffic jam all night and it took me almost 3 hours to run $50 in pennies. I did get a 1943 steel out of it. I avoid CWR like the Black Plague now.
Can't wait to get that cs-95. |

| Never had a whole box, but have had bunches that looked like they were metal detecting finds. But hey copper is copper, so if they were 1981 and earlier, they went into the hoard. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

| I've gotten an entire bag of pond pennies (completely green). I imagine if I had not intercepted it, it would have translated into two entire boxes of green pennies (give or take for commingling). |
