Glad to find this site, I have been buying lots of silver mostly junk 90% along with a few bars. Nothing like the big boys, but that is what I like about the penny hoarding concept. Everyone can do it, if you have a dollar, you can get some pennies to sort by hand. Most people will never care that their pennies are worth either 2 cents or 1.4 or what ever the going rate is or if they are intrinsically worth .0001 cents. That is what makes it unique, to think I used to leave pennies in those little dishes at convenience stores or simply vacuum them up at the car wash and let them fall on the ground. Well, NEVER AGAIN. Ben Franklin was more that right a penny saved is almost 2 pennies earned. or better, time will tell.

Welcome jman. You are right, most people dont care that a copper penny is worth more. In general, people dislike the penny so even when it's worth more than 1 cent, people still dislike them. They even throw them on the sidewalks or in parking lots, like you mentioned (I used to the do the same until I woke up). Their loss, and our gain right? You are among a unique group that has the foresight to get as many of these while they are still available readily at face value, with lost of knowledge to share. I am sure the day will come when they will be traded like junk silver and the people who laugh at us now, wont be laughing anymore. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

jman1237, welcome to the show! Glad to have you. Post well and post often. You are a step above the average "Joe".

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

thanks for the welcomes!! Is there some sort of question I should ask myself about the inherent fear of becoming pennywise and pound foolish? I hope penny wise rids us of foolishness with our "pounds", speaking of which I could stand to lose a few of those other pounds. lol. love this line-thanks A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
How can you dispute this unless of course the cop is really cool and you went to high school with him. (got me out of a night in jail once, THANKS, OFFICER BILL!!!!) |
