Not by me, but it was posted by a guy on another coin related forum. He responded to a CL ad looking to sell "Lincoln cents $100". It was only a 20 minute drive away, so he went to this lady's house.
It turns out it was an elderly lady selling her late husbands collection. She had been offered $100 by a dealer, but the dealer was rude so she passed. It turned out to be a complete set 1909-2008 except the S VDB and included the proofs from the early 1940's on. Everything from 1930 on is BU mostly red or Red Brown and there were several BU teens. The 14-d is AG, 09-s is a weak Fine but the other semi-keys are VF and above. The guy who responded to the ad told her that it was worth much more than $100. She told him she knew that, but didnt need the money. She figured her busband wanted it to go to an honest person, so she sold this to him for the $100 price.
It gets better though. She asked him if he wanted "junk cents". She said he could have them for face value if he hauled them up from the basement. It turned out that there were 3 5K bags of 1940's and 1950's, and 2 5K bags of 1909-1939 wheats. All at face value....wow.
It pays to be honest and polite. I have done over 30 Craigslist purchases myself, and whether the person is young or old, or has a small collection or big one, I treat all of them this way. If anyone is interested in more info on Craigslist purchases, or writing a Craigslist ad to make purchases, I would be happy to help.

| Wow, that is a great score. I'm surprised that woman didn't want anything more than face for the bags. Btw, what kind of bag holds $5000.00 in cents? How much would that weight? How would anyone be able to pick that up and transport it from a basement. He better have a good back or lots of help. lol |

I'm pretty sure he means a bag of 5000 pennies, or $50 face. |

I think Corsair is right. But I do have bags that will hold almost that much. They are US Mint bags and will hold up to 400,000 cents each. I only put 300,000 (1 ton) in each one. Can't move them once you fill them unless you have a serious forklift. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

I've seen those US Mint bags on a television program about the US Mint. I just never thought anyone other than the Mint would have them. That's really cool that you actually have them! You aren't joking at all when you say hoard copper by the ton. |
