| Is this your first 1909? If so, how many pennies did you have to sort to find it? |

TXTim- I assume you are in Texas? What part? I am in San Antonio (recently moved), and the copper percentages here kind of suck. There has to be some big time sorters here. |

Hey Chris-
I'm in the Houston area and average about 19.6% copper. It seems like Texas and other sunbelt states with higher populations get new pennies dumped into the stream by the Feds more than rust belt states according to a post I read on here last year. I get boxes of 100% new pennies frequently - 4 more last week. There is also a high rate of skunk boxes with nothing but assorted zinc in my area. But keep at it - like Hoard says- If your percentages are low, sort more! |

That averages out to one 1909 every $2k face. My ryedale is sitting at $1.9K I gotta go sort $100 worth of pennies to find my 1909 |

The math says- 2.2 mil divided by 12 months is 183,333.33 Most nights I sort 2 boxes. Sometimes I get quite a few bags and may sort 3 or 4 $50 bags in a night since they are a lot quicker to go through. I did get lucky enough to find 9,256 wheats last year thanks to 2 bags that had over 3000 wheats in them. |

| One of my biggest concerns with getting a Rye was the fact that it seems like you would miss alot of wheats. How do you find them? |

You get them the old fashioned way.. by hand sorting.
The older wheats tend to go in the zinc pile along with the Indians. Very easy to pluck out with a quick sift before rolling or bagging the zincs.
The newer wheats will be in your copper pile with all the other copper. You have captured them with the copper sort. You can leave them in your copper hoard and sort them out at some future date at your leisure when you have no pennies to sort for copper. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

| I have a large plastic bin I pour my zincs in to see if I missed any goodies (thanks Hoard). I keep my eye on the zinc side of the ryedale as well to snag any that slip through. |

| I just started sorting pennies. I got a 1909 after only about $150 face. I guess I was pretty lucky. I've also found 2 shinny wheaties so far. Is it common to find some nice condition wheaties every now and then? I've found 3 George VI, but I suppose that's not too uncommon here in michigan. |

biglouddrunk, welcome. '09's are always nice. If only there was an "S" on the front, and V.D.B. on the back....

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |
