Sometimes I occasionally stop by different banks in my area to sample their pennies. Today I picked up six rolls of pennies in addition to some nickels. The pennies were wrapped in those clear flex wrap holders some banks use and I noticed that they looked almost totally dark brown. When I sorted through them I found 271 copper pennies (out of 300) including 6 wheats and two pre-1970 Canadian pennies. Also, the newest zincs were from 2001.
I've had a few rolls that were 50% to 60%, but I've never seen anything like this. These are probably the types of percentages that were seen in the mid eighties. The only thing that was missing was the theme from Miami Vice playing in the playground. Anyway, what are the highest percentages you've seen?

Nice percentages for sure. Too bad it can't be consistent. My best ever, 100%....

One time I found one roll that was all 1959-1980.
Haven't seen another like that, but it was really sweet. |

| I once got a box of pennies somebody turned in to the bank that was 100% copper. There were only 5 wheaties in it but there was also a '78s proof, my first and only proof. |

| About two years ago I would find boxes like that...full rolls of dark colored cents. They certainly aren't like that now, what a difference two years make. lol |

| Hello to all. I am new to collecting copper cents and have really enjoyed all the information and tips I have gotten here. Living in a very small town has it disadvantages but have managed to find almost 250 lbs so far. A few days ago while going to the big town shopping, I stopped in a few banks and managed to pick up several boxes and 2 bags. I was totally surprise when I got home and sorted the 4 boxes from Wells Fargo. 2 of the boxes had very few pennies that weren't copper or Canadian. I have never seen so many Canadian pennies. Averaged 25/30 coppers (several wheat also) per roll. Had a few rolls that were all copper/Canadian. The other 2 boxes averaged 20/25 copper but not as many Canadian. Worth sorting that day. Last week picked up some CWC at the local bank here at home and each rolls held two extra pennies and got many dimes from the rolls Always nice to get surprises in the rolls Thanks to all of your post my collecting is alot easier |
